Re: Darkside Tech: Using Car Tires on a Motorcycle Rim

Why would less tread create slippery tires? Ever looked at the tires on a racing car or motorcycle? They need the absolute maximum amount of grip possible, and the tires have NO tread on them at all. Have you ever tried riding on a road racing slick in the rain? Even road racers use treaded tires i...

Re: trailer or hitch rack

I would personally rather tow a trailer. Reason being, with a trailer, the tongue weight is adjustable. With a hitch rack you are limited to how much you can carry. Too much weight at the rear is a quick way to wear out the front tire as well as making for unstable handling. +1 on the trailer. I te...

OK, here's train caboose. It has been converted into an ice cream shop, but is a real caboose sitting on an old siding.

Re: Phillips had screws

The real question is why does my '03 Goldwing which was built in the USA have "JIS is Japanese Industrial Standard" screws in it? Metric is one thing but to use JIS is Japanese Industrial Standard screws that nobody even stocks a screw driver to fit. Can't by at any hardware, automotive or tool stor...

I and my wife are in the same weight range as you and yours. We load the bike for trips, hook onto trailer and ride have no problems. I run a car tire for the weight factor and still handles just fine.

5W-20 ..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. N.E.V.E.R NEVER NEVER NEVER go below xW-40. Why??? Our engines are "flat tappet" design. Means the tappets and cam have a sliding contact. To avoid wear, the oil has a high zinc content. 1000ppm+ BUT - zinc poisons cat converters. So e...

Re: Front caliper rubbing brake pads

Make sure your left brake caliper is properly centered. Before tightening the axle pinch bolts on the left fork leg it may be moved in or out on the axle to center the caliper to the disc. If not centered correctly the caliper can rub the disc. See link to manual for more info. https://www.manualsli...

Hi. I place the wing on its center stand. Unscrew the oil fill/measure plug, wipe it clean, screw it back in, then unscrew and then measure the oil level. Same as I did for the 2012 wing. From the owners manual: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/805153/Honda-Goldwing-Gl1800.html?page=136#manual #6....
