Re: Verifying GL1000 year of correct manufactured with Glass & Honda UK

Hi, Just an update. Honda UK have no records at all this took them 7 weeks to inform! and the £30 was refunded as no certificate. So next option was the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club who were great and helped identify its true year. So its of to the DVLA in the UK for the last part for the correc...

Re: Verifying GL1000 year of correct manufactured with Glass & Honda UK

Il have a look in to the vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club Maz thanks, It is crazy the DVLA appear to be strict with things that are straight forward. I also just sent photos of the vin number that was one digit out on the V5 as it was an error, that took then two letters from me to get sorted! Keep ...

Verifying GL1000 year of correct manufactured with Glass & Honda UK

My Gl1000 was registered in the UK in 1979, although the vin and engine numbers show its a 1977 model. To get the correct date verified so I can have this properly recorded on the v5 (Registration Document) I have to either evidence the engine numbers in the Glass motorcycle records or contact Honda...

Re: Missing Condenser on 77 !

Spot on Maz, I removed the entire electronic ignition and fitted the stock points and condenser today. And WOW fired up no hesitation and all running perfect. I also recon my Newtronics ignition was failing and hence was not giving right timing to engine despite me having the timing spot on with a s...

Re: Missing Condenser on 77 !

Spent tonight planning the removal. not as complex as first thought.
Il post up a video tomorow when I put the points all back in, and hopefully it runs better. or the carbs are off again to check.
Thankfully I have all the parts required.

Re: Missing Condenser on 77 !

Thanks for that.

I may now consider also removing it and going back to its original points, I have also found these in a box.
Il need to study and find out how best to re wire it back to normal and try it as factory standard.

Missing Condenser on 77 !

Hi, After getting my 1977 rebuild and still learning a thing or two I have discovered it has no condenser fitted! (Part next to battery) Crazy as it sounds I have overlooked this. I think this may be why it has been not running as it should but it has been running but sluggish and hesitant a...

Re: Starting from scratch

Well what I had intended to plan over several years I've done in 3 months. Hardest part was putting in the dam circlip on the drive shaft. Engine was a delight to work on and replaced all the gaskets etc and several other parts. Had a few issues one where I snapped the clutch lifter plate. But she f...

Clutch metal plates, black marks

1977 Goldwing project going ok so far, Engine about to go back in but decided to replace the clutch just in case it was bad. Glad I did as the friction plates were worn and I noticed the metal plates all had black stains on them. The metal plates were not blue marked but it looks to me as if there m...

Re: Clutch plate lifter replacement.

CB750 clutch lifter plate looks very much the same as the original (GL1000 on left. CB750 on right) . Bearing seat and holes all line up. The spring seat is better as its not sitting on the edge of the lip like it does in the original, however the centre rim part as in the photo is lower down. Im no...

So the ...
