Re: Looking for ideas

Actually it's kinda funny you mention 2 stoke oil as an additive. I am considering the exact same thing. A day or 2 before we left on our little vacation I ran my wing in the garage after some fuel supply issues, it started right up and ran as it normally does. Went to ride yesterday morning and it ...

Looking for ideas

Good afternoon all, Since I got my wing back up and running after a 6 year slumber (thanks to the prior owner) the bike has had a slight surge at idle, nothing bad just not the perfect running machine I'd like to have. Anyway I built an EVAP smoke tester for my car since it has an intermittent probl...

Re: choke stuck closed

I would say if there was any fuel left in the carbs when you stopped riding it, there is probably a build up varnish and other deposits in them. The carbs may require some cleaning to get them back to proper form. You may be able to run some Sea Foam in the fuel to help clean them, but I wouldn't ru...

Re: Body part fitment

I had a chance to look the stereo clip is there. A question I have is does anyone have a picture of where the stereo wiring should be routed, or can at least tell me where it should go? I have tried a few routings but I just can't get it to lay just right.

Thanks,

Travis

Re: On to fuel pump number 3

Finally got around to spending some time with the wing this weekend. After installing the new fuel pump and new hose about a week ago, it fired right back up and ran, but then quit while idling and would not restart. After testing the new pump multiple different ways ending with a simple bench test ...

Re: SHORT LEGS !! - BIG PROBLEM ???

Something other Goldwing riders have always told me is that you have to "learn to Goldwing". I have had to relearn how to ride when I got the wing, the ride and handling is nothing like my CB750 or the the little CL350 I had years ago. Tell him it takes time to get used to these big beasts. Like I s...

Re: Body part fitment

Thanks for the info everyone. I am beginning to suspect I need to move the radio harness a bit, and I'm not sure that front radio clip is there, have to look in a little while (if the kids will give me a chance) ;)

Body part fitment

Good afternoon all, Got a quick question for everyone. I am getting ready to reassemble my '92 interstate, and I continue to have the same issue I've had since I got it. The top piece (shelter) that has the stereo does not seem to fit as it should. There is always a gap between it and the left side ...

Re: SHORT LEGS !! - BIG PROBLEM ???

I'm pretty short myself. My inseam is about 30 inches and my '92 interstate has a stock seat and I rode it for a while that way. It made me a little uneasy but, I was ok with it. A few months ago 1 took the seat off and peeled the seat cover off (very easy to do) and took a grinder and flap wheel to...

Re: rear master cylinder repair

Something else to consider is to try reverse bleeding the brakes. This is one of my favorite "newer" ways of doing brakes and hydro clutches I learned from working on Volvo road tractors. I accomplish it by using a 50 or 60cc syringe or a smaller one with a nipple for a hose (possibly a 10cc may com...

Re: On to fuel pump number 3

Well I installed the new fuel pump yesterday and encountered similar symptoms like I had the other day. It restarted after the pump installation ran roughly, and eventually quit. It was tough to get it restarted and would barely idle. If I so much as touched the throttle it died. Wondering if the fi...

Re: On to fuel pump number 3

Good tip on putting in that 90 degree fitting. I hadn't even thought of that, good chance that may have happened to my machine. I'll get one tomorrow when I get the new pump. Thanks for the tip. Even if I kept the RPMs low it just would not run. Just happy it got me home without a wrecker bill. I'll...

On to fuel pump number 3

On my home from work yesterday after fueling up, my wing began to act up. While under throttle I noticed stumbling that continued to get worse as I found a place to stop. As I stopped it quit on me and once restarted, would die when I touched the throttle. Very similar to when the original fuel pump...

Re: Clock adjustment doesn't

I assume you still have the manual for the bike, and know the process. If not here is the process to set the time: 1. Turn the ignition to the accessory position the radio should power up. 2. Push the volume knob, the clock should start to blink 3. Use the radio station tune rocker switch to set the ...

Re: Over heating

Do the cooling fans come on? Issues with the fans is common. Check the fan relays, temp sensor, wiring, and I believe there is a fuse as well. Any of those can cause an issue.

Re: carburetor kits

I have not used them before, but over the years of working on old motorcycles I have learned that if the parts are still available from the dealer get them there first. What do you need? My wing sat for 6 years when I got it, while the carbs were clean when I opened them but there was still some clo...

Headset speaker opinions

My GL came with a pair of J&M headsets which I was told work fine. They were installed in some cheap 3/4 helmets we won't be using. When I tried to fit it to my helmet (which has pockets for speakers) and is a full face, they barley fit and when I tried my helmet on I could not get it on. The speake...

Re: Rear speaker connection (interstate)

No fader on this bike. The PO may have been the one who installed the speakers. The speakers have factory connections which is why I asked. I know it has the 2 front speakers from the factory, they do work. I glanced at the wiring diagram at it looks like the stereo has the wires for the rear speake...

Rear speaker connection (interstate)

Good morning everyone. Got a quick question, my interstate seems to have originally had only the 2 front speakers hooked up. It has the base stereo without the cassette or other controls. I have noticed that there are 2 speakers installed in the rear and the wiring is sitting loose just under the se...

This will be the second CB750 I will have built. The last one was a custom rigid bar hopper. Wish I still had that one.

Re: Finally... A summation of what I have learned

I always wondered about the pressure the entire time I was working on this problem. Right before I decided to change the pump I ran the bike, and while running it I just sat there and listened to it while pondering the situation. Then I looked at my CB750 sitting in the back of the garage and the pr...

Re: Finally... A summation of what I have learned

Yeah, one would think they would have a test for both pressure and volume. It would have saved me a few weeks of head scratching. I did eventually figure out what was going on, but it still bothers me that it took so long. I'm normally not one to struggle with something so this got personal, and yes...

Re: Finally... A summation of what I have learned

The manual states that on the fuel pump test, that you must give it a head pressure of 3 ft minimum on the flow test... and that it must flow the minimum volume with the head pressure against the output port. John, which manual did you find that in? The one I have, a digital version from this site,...
