Why use the radio speakers

How many use the speakers and why? Just curious. I turned it on once and with a full face helmet it was pretty pointless. I use a BT helmet and just stream all my music, I'm in my 50s but completely embrace technology, so we don't really see the point in the built in system anymore. Am i missing som...

Re: Potential Purchase of 1993 low mileage GL1500 Timing belt Question

I just replaced the belt on my 97. They were original and had 80k on them. They looked fine all.in all but it is well worth the piece of mind. It takes a bit to get at them but really not a hard job. It took me about 4 hours but I also did a cruise control adjustment at the same time so it's probabl...

Just a little rant

I really love my bike. The more I ride the more I like it. I get compliments on it all the time as well it's really nice owning it, until you have to work on it. Everything is sooooo hard to do. Jeez. The flipping body work makes everything 10 times harder. Started to adjust the cruise cable cuz I'm...

Re: Windbender windshield

After a few days I'm not so sure about it. Lots more wind noise and good amount of air comes around the sides and sucked in from the back. That is great on a nice day but maybe a bit cold at 41 degrees. Wife likes it so far but we've only done a 45 minute ride at 60. Not sure how she will feel after...

Re: Windbender windshield

Doesn't your clear shield tilt forward? Something doesn't look like the one on my son's 1800 bike. I had to go down in the rain to look at it, LOL. His tilts forward About 3 inches from the lower shield. and at 80 MPH there is no buffeting and the wind blows around the sides and well over your head...

Re: Highway "pegs"

Took off the boards they are marklands you can see the mount in the pic, I need pegs about here 20180128_133512.jpg The crash guard and fairing really make it hard to put you leg anywhere but in the "notch" created by the two. Found a used set of mic-o-pegs on Craigslist but I don't think those woul...

Re: While I'm in there ytis(eye-tis)

I noticed on your sidebags you do not have lights there?? I don't but have seen them even on the cover of the Clymer Manual :) I though an SE was an SE maybe not available in 97? So yeah thinking the same thing. I will have to look but I would bet it has the "little" plugs in those like on the trun...

Re: Show Chrome LED dual conversion harness 13-307

I got around to mocking up my intended set up on my workbench this morning, using 1 of the 2 circuits I got to power up 2 arrays of LED strips. I'll be using one as runningboard running lights and turn signals and the other will be up front as a marker/turn signal (in addition to the front turn sig...

Re: While I'm in there ytis(eye-tis)

Sounds like a normal install to me.....You are back on track and all is well. Did you ever roll the bike outside and see how much the upside bulb projected before you changed it? I did not. Have not even riden in the dark yet but I do feel better about being seen in the daylight, they are much brig...

Re: While I'm in there ytis(eye-tis)

I'm going to post up some more pics this evening after the sun goes down. If you notice in the headlight pics the "cutoff" was low but the beam spread was up the wall not down the wall. Yeah, Bulbs in upside down. Really thought it was the housing and not the lamp that controlled the beam but I shou...

Re: Antifreeze and Oil

I could probably figure out a way to put a few pounds of pressure on the cooling system and see what happens. However, I think Dave hit the nail on the head when he suggested the casting plugs. Right below the plugs was where I could see the antifreeze. It will probably get worse with time so I mig...

Highway "pegs"

What are you all doing?

The Wing has floor boards mounted to the engine guards and they are just not right. I think I need pegs I can put a bit lower and maybe closer.

Wonder what others are doing. I'm 6'2 with a 35" inseam if that helps you relate.

Re: Antifreeze and Oil

Never did it in these motors but could you fill the system then use a pressure tester to look for the leak. Just don't know if you can rent the property adapter.

I like the refurbish idea but only the front. You can't even see the rear so why bother.

Wow! Is that all? No problem with that, pretty good deal. Hey we are not buying a new one are we? We are making ours look new. Please send photo after installing. So all did not go as planned. Bought some wrong size lights for the new side markers so have to send those back and get the right ones. ...

Re: Do you use a dealer for service?

So I swapped the front tire yesterday. Was a bit fiddly but not too bad. Was glad I was able to do it, not just because the shops are a rip off, but because I've never done that before so it's a new skill :)

Re: Who Never Wears A Helmet

Also something to think about. You can get a modular and then you get the full face and open face. Also if you need CPR you are probably dead anyway. It's about 1% effective so not really a concern, for me anyway. I'm about 99% more likely to get hurt without one so I like my odds wearing one.

Windbender windshield

Lots of conversation on here about windshields. I had one I started titled "shorty windshield" Lots of good advise there and else where on the forum and I settled on the Windbender. I decided to start a new thread with my opinion. First off the ws is very stout. It's two short pieces that slide toge...

Re: Who Never Wears A Helmet

Spoke to a woman at a riding class that does not wear a helmet. She said a nurse told her they would break your neck in a crash. I didn't want to argue with her but that is justifying a behavior with a total disregard doe the truth. It's convenient so believed. Do I wear a helmet, yes. Do I think ev...

Thanks for the advise that's a good idea. . I was a bit surprised that the factory adjustment was eliminated but I guess they need the thickness for strength.
