Re: Electronic Ignition

Thanks for the help. wingrider from NGW figured it out. He said to look for a Dyna III Module. I found one under the opposite side Shelter so I now know it is a Dyna III from Dynatek.

Re: Electronic Ignition

Only had a chance to look, not work. I can see the ballast resister with a piggy back resister. So without measuring I guess it would be 3 ohm's and I would use 3 ohm Dyna coils.

Electronic Ignition

Does anyone recognize this ignition module? I am wanting to put some Dynatek coils on my '75 GL1000 and need to know what ohm primary I will need.

Re: REPAIR SERVICE for 1988 - 2000 Honda Goldwing GL1500 Gauge Cluster Speedometer LCD Screen

I have used other LED bulbs in Speedo's and found that they are too long. Can't tell how long these are but the ones I tried bent when inserted and didn't last long.

Re: REPAIR SERVICE for 1988 - 2000 Honda Goldwing GL1500 Gauge Cluster Speedometer LCD Screen

If they are sending that many bulbs it's OK, but the LCD only uses 1 bulb & cap. Maybe someone has ordered the bulb kit and can confirm the number of bulbs.

They sell the bulb & cap for $39.99, Honda's MSRP is under $5.00 for the 2 parts. Buyer beware!!!!

Re: Cruise Control slow to respond

Oops forgot to update. That was the problem. And the carb problem was a clogged vent hose for the California emissions. funny thing was it was the metal tube portion that was clogged, not the rubber hoses.

Re: Cruise Control slow to respond

Yes, the canister holds vacuum. I think I found the problem. I just decided to replace more hoses even though they all looked good, and found the one going to the actuator valve internally collapsed, I could not blow thru it. Unfortunately I can't test it because the fuel level was low and I think i...

Re: Cruise Control slow to respond

Yes, the actuator cable was the first thing I checked. If I put vacuum to the actuator it doesn't take much to raise the engine RPM's. It also holds vacuum.

Cruise Control slow to respond

'91 GL1500SE (California) with Champion Trike @ '92 engine. The problem I am having is the cruise control when activated takes maybe 20 seconds to get enough vacuum to operate. I need to hold the throttle steady until it starts to work. If I don't hold the throttle steady the speed will drop to 30, ...

Re: GL1000 Fork Swap

The Lester front rim is an 18" same as a GL1100. If the tires will swap then I can do it. It's the tire I don't want to loose.
What do you think it will do to the speedo calibration? Will using a 1100 speedo drive show correct speed(+ or- %10 )

GL1000 Fork Swap

Does anyone have a complete list of parts needed to do a GL1000 fork swap from a GL1100 or GL1200? I have a new '75 GL1000 project and found the forks are bent. I also have complete 1100, & 1200 parts bikes to get everything from. I know that ALL BALLS has a chart to create the proper steering head ...

Head Oil Orifice

Does anyone know if the oil orifice in the head of the four cylinder Wings is the same? The part number changes for the 1200's. I may have mixed up 1100 & 1200 parts or lost one. They all use the same o-rings. I don't want to screw up the oiling in my 1200 project. Or maybe someone can measure the h...

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

I am not an "Engineer" but it is my info the a permanent magnet stator is always producing 100 percent power given the RPM. That is the reason extra power is shunted to ground. A series RR will vary the output of an excited alternator by varying the strength of the electromagnet, not possible with p...

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

You would need to check the 3 yellow wires, from the stator, under the LH side cover for resistance to each other and each to ground. Equal resistance to each other, near 0 ohms, and no continuity to ground.

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

The stator is a stationary coil in the upper rear of a Goldwing motor. There is a rotating permanent magnet inside the stator creating AC current. Together they are similar to an alternator with an external regulator/rectifier.The difference is you don't replace the whole thing. The stator, magnet, ...

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

I swapped out another used regulator and now I am getting the proper voltage readings. 14.9 at 2500 RPM and 12.5 at Idle.

I guess i will repair the wiring again using heavier wire and try to sell a Shindengen MOSFET regulator.

Any other thoughts are welcome!!

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

I have just gotten back a GL1200A 85' that I put in a new Stator, Rick's, and used regulator. As I remember the voltage at the battery, at Idle was 12.6, at 2500 RPM also 12.6 Today the readings are Battery Voltage 12.7. When Idling 15.1. At the RR output is 15.8 The Stator connector and Starter Sol...

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

OK, just to be clear. Regulator output wire is R/W. Power lead to Ignition Switch is Red, and voltage drop can be measured with the key on and engine off at each connector in series. 1) Check R/W from Regulator to Battery and replace if needed. 2) The suggestion is to bypass the main fuse from regul...

Re: How to Predict Catastrophic GL1200 Stator Failure

I understand that there are many reasons for any failure. What i don't understand is that a couple of times I have replaced a stator, shorted to ground and gotten only about 12.5 volts output. Even when the regulator was changed, the same results. All the grounds were cleaned and connections cleaned...
