Re: Getting a 93 Aspencade running after 4 years sitting

On a hot day in stop-go traffic it isn't unusual to see temp hit 3/4 scale. I wouldn't worry about it unless the needle moves all the way to the red and you start seeing steam...

Re: RIDING IN THE RAIN.

Lightning can be scary, especially in the Rockies! About 20 yrs ago it was on the news, a motorcycle rider heading westbound on US36 between Denver and Boulder was hit by lightning and crashed. They said the driver was killed instantly by the lightning strike (which blew a 1 ft diameter hole in the ...

Re: Drain Oil from Gl1500 from Oil Filter only?

No matter the washer I use on my old Toyota the drain plug leaks (deformities in the sealing surface on the oil pan).

I solved this by wrapping the drain plug shoulder and some of the threads in that teflon "Plumber's Tape" before screwing it in, doesn't leak a drop.

Re: installing a fuse block

Better to power the fuse block directly from the battery. Then you can use whatever size fuse needed for the accessories without overloading the wiring harness. You can use a relay controlled from the accessory terminals to switch the fuse block on/off with the key.

Re: Storing spare tire

Mine's on top of the tongue, The propane grill travels on top of the spare (bungy-cords) to keep the grease out of the camper. Perfect place for it anyway since storage inside is at a premium. Note the homemade rig on top of the camper for carrying the pop-up canopy. Bungy cords on the back end for ...

Re: 1999 Goldwing SE battery fail

A simple tester would be a small light bulb, like a 194 dash light bulb (the smaller the better), find a socket for it, and disconnect a battery lead (doesn't matter which) and connect the bulb between the battery lead you removed and the battery terminal. Any significant power drain will have to fl...

I'd save the little guy for the petcock in your "Spares" bin if the petcock isn't leaking... besides, I think you have to drill out rivets to open the petcock...

No, you'd never need 95 amps, the thing about the High-Output alternators is they can put out the 32 amps at IDLE RPMs

Just wasting money on premium, Goldwing is a low compression engine designed to run on regular. Better to spend the extra on Non-Ethanol Regular if you can find it.

Really shouldn't need to replace the starter, just the brushes inside, still available. Brushes = Cheap, Starter = Spendy.

Re: Fouling plugs

Hm, If you got the carbs nice, had it running nice and then suddenly not nice, possible some leftover particle of something blocked a passage in a carb. But I think you do better work than that, find an extra sparkplug and attach it to the #1 plug wire and start the bike. See if you have any sparks ...

Don't do that, it's spec'd to 5 amp for a reason. New fuses aren't that expensive.

Re: 4th Alternator GL1500

PO installed a High-Output alternator on my 1500, not sure if it's a Compufire or LActrical (how do you tell the difference?) - It whines, but does not growl..... Lots of "juice" though, even at idle.... :)

Might check to see what's left of the starter brushes, the starter will be very weak if the brushes are worn out, usually draws excessive current, too. An inexpensive fix if so....

Re: So got it running

A cam 180* out? That would make the front two cylinders fire at the same time and the rear two 180* (crankshaft rotation) later followed by 360* crank rotation with no power strokes at all. It would lope like a Harley, but would still be running on 4 cylinders.

Another benefit to tipping the engine on its nose like that to remove the rear cover is it will save you the cleanup of about 1/2 Quart of "Surprise" oil that lives back there even after the crankcase is drained.
