Re: WTB: Speedometer gear assembly

Ended up biting the bullet and ordering from the dealer. Now hopefully, it will come in before the 5-6 days they told me it would take.

Re: gps audio input

I don't know about anyone else, but when I go for a ride it's to escape being tied to a phone, desk, house, etc. IMHO, there are very few, if any, phone calls that are so important that I have to talk while riding. Not since the President stopped seeking my advice, anyways. ;)

Re: Oil changes

I try to change mine every 4k.That may seem a bit excessive, but it's cheap insurance. It doesn't matter to me whether it's synthetic or dino. More importantly change the filter. Todays oils are made to easily protect to 5k or more, but the filter is where most wear particles (and some contaminants) ...

WTB: Hand Wings-1500

Like everyone else that rides double, my passenger complains of the buffeting she gets riding with me. Most married guys understand that if mommas' not happy-nobody is happy, and know the problems that can create. Is there anyone that can help an old married guy keep the peace(or is it "piece" :D )....

Re: skyline dr, blue ridge, tail, nashville or bust

Once you get to the Niagara region of NY, I'd suggest following the Seaway Trail(rt.104) back into Vt. You won't make quick time, but it is a nice ride, especially along the eastern end of Lake Ontario, along the St. Lawrence, and then through the mountains.

Re: Fuel Filter

I will be changing my fuel filter a lot more often now, after the problem it has recently caused me. I think 3 or four times annually(for me) will not be overkill. Of course I converted to an automotive type, so the $7 or $8 will not be a big deal and it's cheap insurance.

Re: gl1500 or gl1800 goldwing

For me, it's the GL1500. While I would LOVE to have ABS, and fuel injection and I curse not having a single-sided swingarm with an easily replaceable rear wheel every time I have to put tires on my bike, my GL1500 does more, better, for the kind of riding I do, than the GL1800.... The GL1800 goes b...

Re: Needing some help...fuel pump?

Thanks for the responses! I finally got some time to further pursue the issue I was having. It turned out to be the fuel filter, yet again. I changed the filter 2-3 months ago but apparently I got some bad gas somewhere. The filter was all gunked up again. I drained the tank and got a bit of what lo...

Needing some help...fuel pump?

I'm working out of town and have very limited access to a computer right now, or I'd search myself- but I can't. I need to find a good equivalent replacement fuel pump for my '93 Wing. I've heard of a NAPA one, a pump for a Chevy celebrity, a pump for a Fiesta, etc., . I would like to cut through al...

Re: Going Darkside

You'll get as many differing opinions on front tires as there are riders! When I went dark, I went with a radial front tire on my 1500. I used a Bridgestone Excedra Max Radial and got close to 20k on it with NO cupping(running balancing beads).I ran it higher on pressure than most(46-48) which helpe...

Re: What type of fork oil to use

Like others here, I prefer using the 15 wt. fork oil. I'm a bit obsessive about my forks, though. I change the fluid annually. I figure it's cheap enough, why not.

Re: Darkside tire change

^ This is why I questioned the OP about his sidewalls. His choice has stiff sidewalls too, similar to the Austone. You have to realize that all car tires, including run flats, are NOT created equal, and by design, most radials are made to flex a lot. Just because a car tire will fit doesn't make it ...

Re: Darkside tire change

I run my Austone @ 48 lbs. Its the same whether I ride single, double, or fully loaded. I ran 46# in my Excedra Max radial front and the handling was superb. I realize its a little high in the front and as a result I wore the .middle out sooner than it should have. I' m getting ready to change it( i...

Re: Darkside tire change

Thanks for posting the pics. I'm curious as to how it will handle with the flexier(is that a word?) sidewalls. Since I'm only at 19Kmiles on my Austone, I'm good for at least another season or two before I even think about something else. With the Austone and its stiff sidewalls, there was no differ...

Re: Tires

As dlfierce stated, some use a car radial on the rear. I am one of them. I chose to use the Austone which is little bit taller than the stock tire on the 1500. I didn't have any issues with it rubbing. I chose that tire because it is a six ply radial with a STIFF sidewall. It works well with a bias ...

Re: Add a power outlet for GPS

Hey Chief_ have you thought of adding one of the 3 outlet(W/usb) things they sell at Wallyworld? They only run about $10 and with some good quality velcro, you can mount it anywhere that's convenient. Just plug it into your existing one and you can now power at least three things AND still charge yo...
