Can someone please tell me.....

Postby wehrd1 » Thu Mar 08, 2012 8:03 pm

if the seats on my '97 gl1500SE are stock or are they Saddleman Road Sofa. The driver & passenger SEAT are one piece, and the 'velour' center are NOT covers....but the passenger backrest IS a cover, and it comes off.

more shots can be seen here:

and there is one more picture I need help with...

what are these buttons on the clutch side of the seat for?? they don't seem to 'do' anything, but apparently are there for a reason...The center 'stars' push in.
(sorry for the crappy cell phone pics)

Thanks!

To tell the truth,It looks like the original style seat style, but replaced upholstery. That is the only explanation for the matching armrest cover. They only come in black vinyl. The buttons? could be a heater switch.
Just my guess.

The buttons are to inflate and deflate air blatters in the seats. Push while not on the seat and they inflate to ambiant air pressure. A piece of plastic hose that fits over the center buttons can be used to blow them up more likeyou blow up a baloon.
To deflate, while seated, simply bump, quickly, in on the button.
That looks like an Air Rider conversion using the OEM seat.

I'm stumped.

I have a line on a used Saddleman Road Sofa seat, cuz the one I currently have just doesn't 'fit' me quite right, and i've heard how nice the Road sofa is...

BUT...if it's what I have now, I sure don't want to buy another one.

The STOCK seat on my fiance's gl1800 is more comfortable for me than the one on my bike.

I suppose I'll have to take the seat off & see if there is a mfg. sticker on the bottom to know for sure IF there is one on it.

Most likely the blatters have no air in them! Inflate per my post above.
If they don't want to hold air, most likely the valves have got dirt on them, keeping them from sealing.
I had an Air Rider on my 1500 and found it to be very comfy!
I would fill it with air, then let a little out each time my bottom became achy and that would change the pressure points and felt like I was on a different seat.
When all the air was out, I would raise my bottom up, push the valve and let the seat inflate and start the cycle over!
