Another new goldwing owner

Postby Stephen » Sun May 03, 2009 1:26 am

I am in the final stages of purchasing my first goldwing, (as soon as the owner finds the title). It is a 1980 GL1100i with no fairings or bags. Needs carb job, break job and the rear shocks worked on. Other then that it runs. I have been looking over all your maintenance tips and through the service manuals and it looks somewhat straight forward. Wish I could find a site like this for my 81 CB650.

Welcome! The 1100 is a fantastic first Goldwing - I have had mine now for about three years, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's quite easy to maintain and repair, it's reliable, powerful and - once you get used to it - really quite sporty and maneuverable, believe it or not!

Thanks dtdrbuzzard, the 650 is sohc.

Wingman, I have been trolling you site for the ast week before joining and I am impressed with the quality of information not to mention the amount of it. The official service manual makes things look easy.

It is almost embarrassing to say that I am purchasing it for the low low price of $300.00 dollars. I have big plans for it. Powder coat the frame and exhausts. Look to put fairings and bags on it but that is still in the thought process.

Pictures will be forthcoming.

Yeah, that's one of Hondo's forums. He's not a mechanic, but he tries to help when he can.
