Gold Wing Aspencade - Clean seat crud?

Postby gof » Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:38 am

My Gold Wing has what can only be described as crud on it. Almost like a buildup of dirt and oil. I am just wondering if this "patchy" dirt can be cleaned easily and safely with a product I do not know about. I have never tried to clean it, just finally noticed that is might not be normal. I would have included a photo, but I am at work.

You might want to try Goo Gone - I've had very good success cleaning any kind of oily/gooey things with it.

If your talking about the engine not the plastic Mean Green does a great job. Spray it on let it set for a few minutes and hose it off with a garden hose will leave things really clean. Wouldnt let it get on the plastic though.

I use saddle soap, cleans, shines and if your seat is real leather it will soften and keep it pliable. Will clean and shine a vinyl seat too, used it on my 82 GL1100 and brought that dingy seat back to almost new look.

Saddle soap meaning from a horse tack shop? Anyone know how it would differ from regular soap? Its grime from dirt and sweat etc. I suppose it was there when I bought it years ago and I have never tried to clean it off. Working on the mechanicals now, will keep this one in mind.

I have mixed Mean Green 50/50 w/water and used it for years all over my bikes, from top to bottom. Nothing in it to cause any problems.
For the OP:
For the vynil seat and other "black" items, believe it or not, baby wipes do a great job!
