Gold Wing GPS Input

Postby cpe94 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 8:02 am

I'd like to purchase a Gold Wing GPS Input from the store but I have a 1987 Aspencade. Which Input adapter do I buy? The one for the 1500 or the 1800. Also how do I get instructions to install on the 1987 1200 Aspencade. It says to contact the store to get instructions but there is no access to contact the store for the instructions. Anybody have suggestions?

It's possible to do (it's electrically compatible), but the connectors are completely different. Instead of the 6P Hitachi-style connector, the 1100 and 1200 use a round DIN connector to connect the headset pigtails. I haven't designed a unit with those connectors - and hadn't really planned to, as there just wasn't much demand.

Let me ask again - if I were to release a unit compatible with the GL1100 and GL1200, would there be enough interest to make it worthwhile?

I know the connectors are apples and oranges. I just need some kind of wiring schematic to match up the wiring. A hand sketch would be adequate as long as colors are marked. If I have to rip up all the wiring to do the connection is isn't worth the trouble is all i am saying. I am using a GPS with a FM broadcast through the radio now but sometimes radio stations bleed into the frequency i use, 88.5 FM, which makes it annoying.

Unfortunately, on the 1100 and 1200 it's not as simple as "connect to the red wire." The headphone connector wires are fully sheathed, just like your headphone wire, all the way to the distribution amp that they plug into. You can do it by cutting into the wires and picking out the wires you want to connect to, but the best way to do it is to insert the sound using a male and female 5-pin DIN connector, so it plugs in between the pigtail and the wire going to the distribution amp.
