July 18th Big Day

Postby Possum51 » Mon Jul 02, 2012 4:30 pm

Well after over 2 1/2 years of fighting the insurance company I finally got approval on my back surgery. It will be great to have the feelings back in both legs again. I know healing will take a long time, I went through that with my oldest daughter after her car wreck and back surgery. Ya'll say a prayer for me or if you don't pray send good thoughts. I't be about a week or so before I'll be feeling ok enough to play on the computer after the 18th. Ya'll take care and keep the rubber side down !!!

Fingers crossed that it all goes well for you.. Good thoughts heading your way for the 18th..
I have to have my back fused later this year (broke it 30 years ago and have now lost feeling in right foot) will be the L1/S5 that gets fused so minimum loss of movement and hopefully a quick recovery!!

Thanks Gary, and the same for you. Mine is L3-L4. Doc says I should only loose around 3% movement.

3% movement loss for lots of feeling back in the legs.....hmmm, you going down the right road. Good luck, and read on from the other side. We will be waiting.

Good luck on the surgeryand I hope you have a speedy recovery! My wife had the back surgery this past November, she's doing much better now but it is a slow recovery the Doc says about a year, she's able to do short rides.

Well folks the surgery is done now, spent a few days in the hospital and then a week in rehab hospital. Just got home this morning, The spine doc said what he found wasn't as bad as it could've been and he really liked the way the repairs took and looked. He went ahead and did some work on the disc below the damaged oned so he wouldn't have to open me back up later to fix it. Just trying to taking it easy and he (doc) wants me to walk as much as possible each day, Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers !!! God is Great !!!

Glad to hear you are on the mend. It is amazing what they can do with microscopic surgery, I've been there and done that several times and am very thankful. Just follow Drs orders and you will be out riding the wing and making ice cream stops before you know it.Rest easy, ride safe.

LOL, not a problem Mag, yes I did a couple times, setting goals for myself to walk a little further each time, not to push it, but a few steps more each trip is a big step toward healing. Thanks for the encouragement !!! :D

I just had my L3 and L5 screwed to L4,three weeks ago Couple of days in the hospital and then lots of wandering around the yard at home. Each day is better but I really have to be sure I don't over do it. It's tough just doing nothing. Best to let it take its time because you only have one back.

Get well my friend

I agree 110% with that !!! I had already figured at least 1 year before getting back on the bike at all. That will give me time to fix all the little things I've been wanting to do to it before riding season late next summer.

Be sure to carry a picture when you go thru airport screener, some metal detecters are sensitive enough to pick that up.

I know, my oldest daughter broke her back in 5 places in a car wreck back when she was 18, she has a little more metal in her back that I do.
