How to use your phone into helmet headsets???

Postby nepadj » Mon Jul 02, 2012 11:41 pm

I have a 2012 Wing, and was wondering if there's an INEXPENSIVE way to utilize my cell phone (dial out & receive calls) thru the headsets. We have the J&M Elite 629 series but when I called J&M, they told me it will cost -- somewhere near $700.00 just to use the phone "bluetooth". There's got to be a better way ! Please pass on your ideas & suggestions!! Thanks & Ride Safe!

J&M will be the best source of info on how to do it. Sounds like you got your answer.

For me when I'm on the bike the phone isn't a priority. I'll catch up on the missed calls the next time I stop. Safer too.

I have long learned that anything related to a motorcycle is not INEXPENSIVE.

There are a number of reasons why it is neither simple nor inexpensive. I built a hacked-together version of a bluetooth headset and wired it into my GL1100's intercom. I have ideas of a better way to do it on my GL1500, and I've been experimenting a bit, but haven't come up with a solution yet that I'm happy with.

I have the Chatterbox bluetooth units they clip into our HJC helmets, they give you intercom and the ability to answer calls with the touch of one button, you still dial out on your phone or if you push the button on the Chatterbox unit it will dial the last call you made. I can listen to music from my phone via bluetooth and when a call comes in cuts out the music (or intercom) and you talk con the phone through your helmet mike and earphones.

All of us are wondering what the 2013 Wing will be like - let's hope it will have bluetooth.

I highly doubt Honda will ever add Bluetooth to a motorcycle, for liability reasons. They won't even allow us to operate the GL1800's on-board GPS without having the bike on the side of the road in neutral.

If they ever did add Bluetooth, it would likely have restrictions on it so that the bike had to be turned off, key in the trunk, and you standing in front of the headlight in order for it to operate.

Don't know if they still sell them, but years ago I bought a bluetooth set from Motorola that consisted of a boom mic and one earphone. It was about the size of a half dollar and stuck to the side of the helmet with double sided tape. The earphone was routed through the helmet liner to your ear. It was made for a 3/4 helmet and had one large button on it that you pressed to answer or initiate a call. That was it. It was made for one purpose to make or answer phone calls and nothing else. I bought it for the Motorola cell phone I had at the time, but since then I've gone thru several different phones and currently have it paired to my LG. If my memory is right it was about $125.00. The only drawback is the low volume when getting an incoming phone call. Like I say, this was several years ago and I don't know if they still sell them. From what I've read, these type units are almost impossible to get nowadays, so I'm hoping it lasts forever.
