gps audio input

Post by bobgolfnut » Thu Jul 05, 2012 5:43 pm

does anyone know with the goldwing audio input if a gps with a 2.5mm input will work the same as the 3.5mm plug as mentioned in the docs page from june? I found a garmin 295w but it has a 2.5 input

Normally a 2.5mm plug is used to send audio TO the GPS (i.e. a microphone, to send the GPS audio commands), and will not work the same way as the 3.5mm jack which is used to get audio FROM the GPS.

However, in the case of the Garmin 295W, they have done things backward, and used a 2.5mm jack to OUTPUT audio from the device. You can either use Garmin's special headphones (which have a 2.5mm plug on them) or a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter. If you use the 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter (I *think* the unit is supplied with one) you can utilize it with the GPS Input device sold here - the input device plugs into the adapter, which plugs into the GPS.

If you don't have an adapter, you can buy them fairly cheaply: ... QAod7BiODw
