Repaint the repaint

Postby riffraff » Thu Jul 26, 2012 11:42 am

Here we go again! In painting a new heimet I decided to skip the gold base color and go with the sparklescent mango paint on the white primer. That's the color I was looking for to begin with! Much brighter. The new color is on the left. The old on the right. See ya in the spring!

It's started! In front is a trimmed front fender ready for striping. Behind it is the battery cover ready for paint! :D

The only trouble with this is that they will not be able to tell where the rider finishes and the GW starts!

But, I like mangoes, but dont know whether I would like to go-mango on a mango GW

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

Just got a new(to me) trunk. The size and price were right so I had to own it. I gotta fab a mount for it then paint. I gonna leave the bottom black and paint the lid to match the bike. This should complete the bike, atleast till I see something else!

I like your mount - all aluminum, it looks like? Nice and light. Channels and angle pieces, bolts and standoffs. Looks like no welding at all, which is my style, because my welding is atrocious. :)

Everything came from Home Depot. The plate is steel. I couldn't find a local supplier for an aluminum plate like that. As for welding skills, I don't have access to a welder, so all must be bolted together.
Now I just gotta paint the lid. Probably over the winter. 8-)

Thanx art, I'm still getting the hang of the water based paint. If the prep work isn't right and ya rush pulling the tape off, it peels like a sunburn right down to the base coat. If I had the cash and space I'ld move up to a larger compressor so I could use a small gun with a fan spray rather than the airbrush with its circular pattern. Oh well, just make do with what I got! :D

I don't think I've had the airbrush a year yet, but it's a pretty steep learning curve if ya want to avoid starting from square one cuz you were rushing. Patience is the hardest skill to master doing this stuff!

Not winter yet! Once it gets into the 30's, and there's snow on the ground I start to think riding season is winding down. Everyone talks funny today between IM speak, and Hip Hop gangsta wannabe and rap.

It's semi nude now cuz I needed to get inside the headlight bucket. So I figured, paint the fairing now while it's still warm.

It's on, it's orange, and like it! All that remains to be painted is the shelter and rear fender. I have extras of each just for this.
I think this color will last a while though

These will be the finishing touch when the shelter is done.
Here's a pic from my apt. A better view of how bright the orange is. Sorry about the dirty window
