So I found on Ebay a left hand control assembly for my 1800 at a reasonable price. It's in Albuquerque, NM and I'm on Galveston, TX. Roughly 1000 miles away. I'm on vacation for a week. Let's see... pay $20.00 for shipping or go for a ride?
I pack the camper, kiss the wife and baby goodbye and take off.
It was a great ride. I stayed the night in Roswell, NM. The annual UFO festival was in full swing. The next morning I ride to Albuquerque, get the part and head back to Roswell. When I get back to the RV park where I was staying I notice what I KNEW was brake fluid on the back tire. I KNEW it was brake fluid because 1) it smelled like brake fluid (to me), 2) it was on the back wheel and 3) the rear brake didn't seem to be working as well as it should. This is late Saturday. The local bike shop is closed on Sunday so I spend an extra two days in Roswell. What the heck... I'll check out the UFO Museum and Research Center.
Monday I ride to the shop. They put it on the rack and guess what? It's not the brake but the final drive. Pour lube in the top and watch it come out the bottom. Luckily there is a U-Haul center in Roswell.
Once home I buy a trike take-off final drive for the Honda dealership and I'm rolling again.
Anything goes - doesn't fit any other category!
