Closed On Monday

Postby tom84std » Tue Aug 14, 2012 11:31 am

Don't know why I have such a hard time remembering. A year ago I was building a front end and needed a rimstrip for a spoked wheel. I went to five motorcycle shops on Monday morning, each were closed. I bought a roll of cheap electrical tape and wrapped the rim with that. I've been at least twice in the last ten years to the local Honda shop to buy expendables for my 1000 like oil filters etc. Pulled up to the shop only to be met by locked doors and a sign "closed on Monday"

I recently sold my old 1000 to a friend. It's pictured in my signature but these days it's kinda stripped down cafe naked. We're planning a Colorado ride in a couple of weeks and in it's present configuration he's convinced it'll be too difficult to pack without at least a sissy bar and/or a luggage rack. Yesterday I headed to Dallas to a motorcycle junkyard. I was hoping to find such an accessory in the twisted piles of 60's,70's and 80's hulks stored there, besides I like digging around in salvage yards, especially motorcycle salvage yards. Two hours and 40 miles later I was in a pretty rough but familiar part of Southeast Dallas in the parking lot of L & L Motorcycle Salvage looking at a locked door and a sign that read "Closed on Monday"

Damn!

They are closed on Mondays simply because they are open on Saturdays.

Well, Memory isn't my only problem. I'm a little slow sometimes. Especially the older I get. Dingdong is a play on my last name which is Bell.

Well you can call me Dipdong! Memory? Motorcycle shops have been closed on Monday for as long as I can remember. Somehow someway at least twice a year I end up riding down to get parts and end up in an empty parking lot staring at a sign reading "Closed On Monday". One time I said something to the guy behind the counter at the Honda dealership and he replied "Yeah man, Monday is my Saturday." But seriously, it was a motorcycle junkyard I went to last Monday, and fourty miles away in a bad part of Dallas. Who'd have thought a junkyard would be closed on Monday?
I'm a dipdong. To live is to learn.

My dealership here is closed Mondays also, and I cannot seem to remember it either. They too are open Saturdays, but they do no business. It is a meet and greet day for gabbing with customers. I never make Saturdays, and get t'd off at myself when I get there on Mondays. I know exactly how you feel dipdong, errrr, I mean tom84std.

I understand the logic behind closing on Mondays, I understand that and get it,,, here's what I will never understand....Why do cycle shops close so early, like at 6 pm...Autozone is open until 9pm and open at 7 am...Hummmm it just seems to me that most riders work right? I mean they have day jobs..Hummmm off at 5 or so, no time to get too the shop hardly in time of them closing..I feel this to be so foolish, the sales would double in the parts department once the word is out they stay open later...Let the guy's in the work shop go home at 5pm but the parts guy's should stay there...But what do I know.... Wouldn't that be nice...Staying open probably would sell more bikes off the floor too...

I agree with you Bever, so many businesses think they can work banker hours and then wonder why they are just barely making it. This is especially true in the summer when it doesn't get dark until 9pm. Hours like 11am untl 8pm would be more in tune with when people might shop. But who am I to think I know better. I just know when I am more apt to need something and have the time to go get it. It wouldn't be 9 to 5 if I was still a working stiff.
