Seat Cover

Postby dkenny » Mon Aug 20, 2012 9:39 pm

Evening all, here is a bit of a challenge. My GL1800 (06), is my only vehicle. I use it every day, any place I go it goes. I drive about 40 miles to work, and the bike stays parked out doors all day, until it’s time to mount up and go home, and run the 40 miles back, where it is neatly tucked in the garage. Unfortunately, the “all day” in the sun and elements is not a good thing. It would seem that Honda did not design our beloved GL1800 to actually survive the elements. On my 2001, I had to replace the seat after a couple of years, since the vinyl cover cracked and ripped. That is a costly undertaking, it will be more so with the heated seat of my comfort package. Being lazy (as I am) I only use the half cover on rainy days. I would like to place a permanent cover on the seat. It does not have to be pretty, but only protect it from the sun, dust and dirt. One that would remain on the seat while I ride as well. Tried several “rain covers”, they are not designed to hold on to the seat at cruising speeds. Any creative ideas are welcome.

why not use your 1/2 cover every day? it only takes a few seconds to put it on or take it off.

I use a bead seat cover for air flow but I doubt it will help with weather protection.

The half cover is ok, but, the antenna (FM and CB), tend to poke holes through it eventually, as careful as one might be. I have already replaced a couple, and this last one has a few duct tape patches...

cut a slit in a tennis ball and stick it over the antenna hinge or make a cap for it with 3/4" PVC.

Cut a piece of PVC 3-4" long. cut a slit in it wide enough to clear the part of the hinge that is horizontal when the antenna is folded. Glue a cap on the end and you have a cheap cap that protects your cover.
