Add accessories or not? Opinions please.

Postby bwagner6 » Sat Sep 08, 2012 6:19 am

I purchased my wing early this spring from the original owner. It is a 1986 Aspencade that was assembled and titled in 1989 (yes in the crate for 3 years!) It only has 7000 miles on it and is all original except for new tires. Pristine condition! I have been wondering if there is a value in keeping it all original. Part of me wants to add some chrome and goodies but I also like having an old original too.... Any thoughts? Also are there collectors out there paying money for a classic wing?

I say. go ahead add chrome. Just keep the original parts. If your concerned about value, don't cut. chop or drill.

We can all have 'original wings' by using add ons then taking them off. The value I see is in mileage/condition/and number of owners. Of course the mileage is now down to you. If you want it to gain money then purchase a second bike and put the first in a garage and just look at it every so often but make sure all the rubbers are fine and the engine is run regularly.
As far as collectors go there no doubt are collectors willing to buy low mileage bikes but the value is in what someone will give not necessarily what you want.

sir if you leave everything stock then you will walk away with many trophies if you enter it in any contest at shows... If you are not planning on entering any shows then I would add on what suits you best..

Show? Trophy? I have been asked to enter my 76 in shows but I'd rather be riding. The 1200 isn't yet a collectors item except perhaps the Standard. Very nice bike though. Keep her original, you seem proud of that. You will be the exception.

Keep it original and only add extras that help you enjoy the ride. Original bikes are rare. Chrome is not unique, everyone's got it.
