Your going to be out there at a great time, I Was there last week and there was a little color, planning on being back out there on the 19,20th and 21st.

The dragon is over rated in my opinion, but is a must do so you can say you did it. Any road in the area is as good or better in my opinion.

28, the "Bootleggers" road is a good road with waterfalls and the Charohala is a must do ride for the areas scenery and long range views that can't be found anywhere!

Enjoy your stay and safe riding

Edit: There is an exit on the BRP in the Candler area just west of Ashville, it's called "The Devils Staircase".......... A must do road, lots of fun tight turns and switchbacks........ good ride!

Bryson City Chili cook off is going on the 20th, we will be there with a lot of other wingers.

Did the Dragon (twice) a coupla years ago on my '83. Also did the Parkway and Skyline. My riding buddy (90 HD) and I, with the wives, are headed to Roanoke, VA the w/e of the 13th. Girls are driving the auto, Rusty and I are riding. Staying near Roanoke, then the girls are gonna ride with us some. Gonna hang around there for a coupla days then come home.

There is another one a few miles to the North West of deals gap that they call "The Devils Triangle" which is 44 miles of about the same as the tail of the dragon. As a previous poster mentioned, there are an awful lot of good rides in that area.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

The Dragon has changed a lot i the past year. There is now a lot of pull outs in between a lot of the curves and is heavily patrolled during those peak times. We were there on a Sunday and passed 6 or 7 LEO during the trip. Some were escorting those Trouble maker types, 1 was driving the dragon, maintaining traffic speed, some were sitting in the turn outs (Radar on) and one was writing a ticket for tailgating. I don't think writing tickets is the goal of so much police coverage, I think they want to get the racers types off, but we were running 40 to 45MPH between the curves and they didn't bother us. Because of the turn outs, slower people in front of you can turn off to let traffic go by, or you can pull off and give some space in front of you, which we did several times. It did make the Dragon a lot more pleasurable to ride.
