intro - wg from TX Hill Country

Postby wiredgeorge » Thu Oct 18, 2012 4:25 pm

Howdy... I am wiredgeorge from the Texas Hill Country and I just bought a 1997 GL1500SE Roadsmith Trike from KD Cycles in Altoona Alabama. 43K miles... My wife and I ride 2-up currently on a 2006 GL1800. I am going to trade it for the trike. I live out near Medina Lake about 1/2 way between Hondo and Bandera on a few acres of land where my business is also located. I rebuild and sell vintage Japanese carburetors; sorry don't do GW carbs at this point as they take too much time. We have 3 daughters (2 married) and 5 grandkids, 11 dogs (we rescue), 3 house cats and a passle of barn cats. We are members of Western Heritage Cowboy church and my wife and I are lifetime members of the Bandera Gun Club. We like to shoot. I own quite a few bikes (see sig) and have owned quite a few bikes over the past forty odd years... If you are interested in vintage bikes, drop by http://www.vintagebikeforum.org. Anyway, as a professional mechanic, I hope I can pick up some good GL1500 advice and tips and perhaps help somebody else out along the way.

I'm a Texas refugee as well, lived in Odessa for thirteen years, but only after thirteen in Houston. Welcome to the forum, it's nice to know there's others who have already done it all, and don't mind passing on instruction as to their procedures.

Welcome from the U.P. of Michigan. You have quite a a few different bikes to choose from which is nice. Being as most of us have experience with Gold Wings and a few others on the way there it is nice to get another opinion on some of those other bikes. Any time you can voice your experience please do,and if we can be of assisstance to you do not be afraid to ask.

Welcome, from the northwest corner of Virginia. Good to have another member, specially a mechanic. You'll appreciate the time and effort these guys have put into the How-To videos. I know I do. I'll be using one tonite on how to remove the wheel and blown rear tire I got earlier this morning.

We get up to Winchester now and again; oldest daughter and her husband and 3 of my grandkids live there. He is a manager with a credit union.

Welcome!! Don't live in Texas, but love riding there. Grand kids and kids live in S.W. Ohio, Cincinnati area, so we live close by. The boss keeps it that way, and I don't usually object.

Hello neighbor! I do live in DFW but the hill country has always been a very special place to me. I love Bandera and have spent a lot of time in Fredicksburg. Think about visiting the BMOA ralley in New Ulm Tx. during the middle weekend of May every year. While it's devoted to mainly British and European machinery, you'll usually see my big Honda parked in a campsite there. I ain't gonna ride a Thunderbolt 250 miles!

Welcome from another local Texan....I'm in the S.E. corner of Bexar Cty. Ride the hill country when I can. Usually attend two or three rallies in Bandera each year. Since my normal mechanic closed his shop and took a job job to please his GF, I am without a bike mechanic at the present time. I know you don't work on GW's but I do have my 72CB750 to deal with. Maybe I can get some help there now and then. I used to work on the 750's myself, but hav'nt in since about 1992 and don't really care to work on them at all anymore unless I have to. Will try to stop by next time I get out that way.
