How many managed to get a ride in December 1st?

Postby RoadRogue » Sat Dec 01, 2012 8:46 pm

First of all I live in the Great White North. I live in the mountains, there is snow on those mountains and even at the side of some of the Hiways .That didnt stop me from burning through half a tank of fuel today. I managed to get in 175km or a little better than 100miles. I have never been able to ride in December before, I usually have the bike put away by early November at the latest.

Is trying to find C9 LED Christmas lights......took my boy in the "cage", did not find a damn thing, and wasted 2 hours, UGH! So back on the roof I went to put on the lights I did have....only 3/4 around the house, lol.

Rode around town and in the christmas parade. Total ride was only 30 miles but it was good. The wife and I will be riding tomorrow to North Alabama to our son's house. We will be taking some stuff up to them so I have to hook up the trailer behind the wing. Should be a good day of riding...... :D

Deep Sigh!!!! Its just not that warm up here, todays ride ranged from 33*F to maybe 40*F. "They" are calling for almost a foot of snow here by this time tomorrow. I hope "they" are wrong. 8-)

I rode my ATV with snow blade attached if that counts. Put on maybe 2 km. but it took an hour.

Didnt get a ride in on the 1st, but will tomorrow or the 2nd. I got to work and I ride about every day unless it is raining in the mornings before I leave.

The wife and I got about a 50 ride in today. 65 degrees here. SO nice we just couldn't resist. Just remembering when she told me "I don't like those motorcycles, they look like motor homes". Then today while riding she says "this will really be nice when we get OUR bigger goldwing". So who am I to argue with getting a bigger wing then?

I am lucky. If it is not raining when I get up I ride every day. I use the wing as my primary source of transportation as 17 mpg in the truck is a killer. The big problem down here in S.W. Florida is that the roads are mostly straight and flat which is boring.

I Think I made a mistake winterizing mine last week. Could have ridden yesterday, today and tomorrow to work. I'm really tempted to put the battery back in it and keep it going through December!

Hi Roadrogue,

I live 4 degrees further North than you do,and yes, managed a few miles today. My knees haven't defrosted yet!

First time we have been out on December 1st!!
Wasn't a long ride, about 30 miles. Delivered a utility hand truck back to a friend that loaned it for our move. (if I own any vehicle, it has to be able to be a hauler once in awhile) Tied it on top of the hitch and anchored it to the trunk rail, and away we went. Nice ride, not out long enough to get cold at all. Tailgunner didn't even have her visor closed. Got home just as the sun was going down.
Woke up to snow this morning, but it is right at that temperature that it won't last long. Might get out again this year.....

Way to go guys, I am glad to hear there are a few other crazies out there still riding around in the cold. For those of you in warmer climates that have no need for heated vests and heated grips, December is just another month for you, enjoy. We in Popsicle country are a little jealous.I have been riding bikes for 35 years now and this is the first time I have ever been able to ride in December. As Scott said ,Yeah for global warming. 8-)

It's days like today that make me wish I didn't have to winterize my 'Wing. It was in the upper 40's, but dry...so a ride would have been possible. Remember to dress for the weather, and prepare your machine for the weather, too. Our reactions aren't the only things that are effected by the cold.

Hadn't been out in about six weeks while bike was hanging in the shop. Finally finished replacing tires, rebuilding brake calipers, then rebuilding rear master cylinder. Worked late last night and early this AM so we could get in a ride today. Don't normally get 60 degree weather in NE Nebraska in Dec. The wife had volunteer work to do but still got 30 mile ride in. I dropped her off and did another 50. Just couldn't make the turn to go back to the house without touring the surrounding towns.
