Differnce between wheel & rim

Postby hap2 » Thu Dec 06, 2012 1:04 pm

What the difference between a GoldWing wheel & a Goldwing rim? I personally didn't really think there was any difference. You see I sent someone a 15 sec video of what I thot was a wheel (which I can send to u if u wanna see it) but he wants more pictures of the wheel.

Thank you

Technically the wheel is the rim, and you mount the tire on it, but most people call the mounted tire and rim the "wheel", so take it as you will.

I wanna see it...I wanna see what a wheel looks like in you're video.. :shock: When I tell someone it's a wheel issue it's saying, Tire plus rim = wheel you ask for a wheel bearing not a rim bearing I think..It is a rim when the tire is not on it, but if that tire is mounted it magically becomes a wheel..You would never call a old wagon wheel, a wagon rim would ya.. :lol: :lol: Did someone give you greif because you said it's a wheel...? I got in lots of trouble with a guy once in SC who knew everything there is to know, I called the engine a motor, oh help me :shock: I gotta ten minute lecture on engines and motors, good grief.... I grew up saying motor mounts how about you..It is a engine mount but I think we all know what we are talking about, it's a mount.. ... But anyway post that video man I would love to view it :lol: ..

Everyone knows the English language is played fast and loose. When you have a flat in your car and you grab the spare, you don't say "I'm going to change the rim" or "I'm going to change the wheel" but you do say "I'm going to change the tire" meaning the rim and tire.

What is what?

A rim is a subset of a wheel. A wheel has a number of components:
    A rim;
    a tyre
      (even a wagon wheel has a steel tyre);
      a hub (for the axle); and,
      the rest - which can be spokes or solid material.
Here endeth the lesson for today.
Len in Kapunda

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.
