Spammer in our midst

Postby WingAdmin » Tue Jan 15, 2013 10:37 pm

We had a guy register on here today and go to work, spending almost two hours posting a ton of messages all over the place.

I deleted him and all of his messages in seconds with a single mouse click. :) :)

It's annoying that they do slip through once in a while, but it's oddly satisfying to blow away all that garbage with a single click of the mouse. :)

With WingAdmin and LilBeaver on the job, I wouldnt want to be the spammer! Occasionally, on other sites that I visit, there are attempts at spamming, but fortunately the Admins are usually awake to these trolls. Thanks.

I caught it too, thankfully we have great people to take care of idiots like that. Too bad you can't reverse spam them with a stink bomb.

Spammers want to post links or pictures. On a forum I help moderate there is a requirement of 15 posts before you are able to post a link or picture. We hardly see a spammer now.

Maybe something to look at doing.

Oh, now that's pretty smart, I have always noticed that they seem to be from other countries... Or are they just pretending to be from other countries...?? Why??? Just to disrupt things?? what's the purpose of this...Spam nonesense..

I dislike spammers
and last night someone had a field day 'Spammer's Diarrhea'. Sure haven't a clue what they were selling, I know it wasn't motorcycle related.

Glad the Admin toasted the spammer.

A click of a mouse and he was gone...It's still gotta be a real pain and very discouraging to see this stuff on his site....I wish there was a way he could track these fine folks down..

It's not worth the time and effort tracking them down - 90% of the time they're from some foreign country, and there's nothing you can do.

I have some fairly sophisticated controls in place to keep them from getting on here in the first place, but once in a while they can slip through. The automated controls I wrote kills off between 5-10 pretty much every day as they attempt to register, so I'm not too upset when one gets through every couple of weeks. That's not bad odds.

I jumped on to this board because the one that I was on had more spam than members, was not fun, hated it, and the site was a good start. Glad to see just with a tap of the index finger to a mouse or keyboard button....the magic of anti-spam ;)
