No PMs announcement to private email?

Postby Missourimike » Mon Jan 21, 2013 2:34 pm

I've been in contact with a several folks on this site, trying to buy or sell parts. One problem is, I don't get a notice on my home email that I've got a message from goldwingdocs site. Other forums I frequent are able to relay messages. Not here? I suppose I can continue to check this website, when I can.
Other problem is with folks wanting to sell or buy. They have something to get rid of, or need, but don't know what the part is for.. No price is given, no shipping information. It takes WEEKS to conclude a deal when emails are sent back and forth, seller asking irrelevant questions and still not giving information the prospective buyer needs, like Price, Address, Paypal address, etc.
Folks, take a course in marketing or put yourself in the same position as the buyer or seller you are emailing. Get down to business and put all important info into ONE email. Sometimes, after a week or two of waiting and wondering when someone is going to respond, I just go on to another source.

Normally, this happens. However, I had a major server failure yesterday afternoon - BOTH mirrored hard drives in my mail server failed. As a result, no email has been sent out from the web site (or to/from me or others on the server) since then. I've been up for 28 hours straight rebuilding the server and restoring backups. It should be back up sometime this evening, at which point all the email that hasn't gone out should be sent.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks for the notice of the email server problem. Will stand by. Hope you get a good, uninterrupted sleep after this!

The new server is now (mostly) up, and mail is flowing. I've been awake for 35 hours and am now going to bed so I can get up and go to work in the morning!

The admin job for all boards seems to be the one tireless effort behind the scenes, but without it we dont work. I thank you for your effort and dedication to this site, WingAdmin, and trust that your problems will forever be small and easy.

What a way to have spent a long weekend. I feel bad for you Mr. WingAdmin. A labor of love it likely was not after the first eight hours or so. I thank you for all you do.
