new lady winger needs document help please! :-)

Postby steelhorseangel » Fri Feb 22, 2013 7:46 pm

hi wingers howdy!

greetings from angel from the uk!

i've just bought my first wing. it's a gl1200 deluxe 1984 interstate. needed a new exhaust, battery, rear caliper. it has only done 36k and i've had this checked.

i've now downloaded and personally laminated every page of the 'goldwing docs' haynes manual. thank you for the lovely kind person who did this for all!

a) what i've also tried to find is a gl1200 1984 interstate owners manual please! there are so many controls on the bike. i need to know what to do with them. does anyone have a pdf or jpg version please?

b) i've found 2 parts books on this gw docs site. thank you again! the two files are 3mb & 6mb. i live out in the sticks and my internet is very slow. there appears to be a 'time out' on each of the parts files? i waited for ages, the files finish and i try and save each d/l file. i get this message on each d/l 'i/o error, time out'

i don't know why i can't d/l and save them?

can someone please help me with these files please!

many thanks for your help, great site and all you guys are so caring, matey and helpful!

bless you all! regards

angel :-) ride, wrench and a wench! taught by dad, to service my bikes!

I am sure someone will find it for ya.

I could make available for download, a 1985 Aspencade Owners Manual if that would help, but I do not personally have a 1984 Interstate manual. The manual I have is approximately 9 megabytes, in PDF format.

Angel, welcome to this great site. As far as your problem of downloading large file, first tell me what internet browser you use? There is a way I can break them into smaller rar files, and then you would just have to reassemble them when they are all finished. Actually the rar program would do the reassembly if you have all the files. First I need to know what browser you use to download. Then we can go from there.

hi viking

Are you Nordic?

Many thanks for the Asp owners manual!
It was very good of you.
My bike is the gl1200 interstate.
I couldn't find a owners manual for the interstate.

There are a few differences, i see.
Does the interstate have a gear indicator? Shows what gear you're in?
Analog or led gauges?

Thanks again Viking!

If I was any more Nordic, Angel, I would still be swinging an axe from the deck of a longboat. Beard, long hair, blonde, blue eyes - yep, a Norseman through and through. That's my head on my honda in my avatar

hi viking! in the uk, the city of york. they've a living (go back in time) viking village. it's a living museum where you can experience everything to do with vikings! it's a very interesting experience.

do a search on 'yorvic, vikings, city of york.' york is the capital of yorkshire. they've sheep, castles, own brew beer, betty's famous tea rooms!... brit tea and cakes very expensive $.......ouch!

*** end ***

please can you advise me about my lights problem?

gl1200 1984 de interstate rear lights problem. hi viking! :-)

greetings from the uk.

i've problems with my rear lights.

i've wired up bikes before. i don't understand what the rear lights should do?

the po, wasn't a master mechanic. remember, when i bought this project wing he advised me that he had put new rear brake pads in. however failed to see the missing brake pistons and two seals?

all the front lights all work. i noticed on the bottom of the saddle bags lights. so many botched wired connections. none soldered, just stripped and twisted together. i've now replaced the poor wiring with the correct colors and each one soldered and heat shrunk!

i then connected the rear indicator (turns) and brake lights. switched on. the turns work. the brake lights work, with foot brake, not front brake. i noticed that the brake light wires were spliced with a none waterproof inline fuse?... why has the po done this appauling wiring? he used the three pin plug for the top box to connect too. he cut into each wire and twisted the brake wires into the wrong connection?

q) on all the other bikes i've owned the rear light is a normal size bulb. is the rear light in the stop/turns area? i note that mine has to back to back bulbs with two filaments in each bulb.

or

q) is the rear light in the rear of the top box?

the rear wiring on the bike has been ruined by the po. i don't have a color schematic for this bike. hard work without the correct wiring reference.

summary

all the front lights work. on the dash a warning light is on saying 'taillight'. i don't know where the taillight is. i've never owned a wing before.

q) what rear lights should be on, when the front lights are on; top box, saddlebags? i just don't know.

q2) i've also discovered a little bulb, not connected, underneath the number plate.

i don't understand the rear lights wiring and what lights should on.

the front and rear brake lights aren't working? connection? fuse, bulb?

i can't find a harness for the rear lights?

how many rear lights should come on?

many thanks for your advice mr viking!

regards

angel

Yo Hal! I'm not Angel, and I'm certainly not an angel, but I have a question. The link you posted for a manual; I am a little leery about downloading from an unfamiliar site. Have you used this site? Have you had any problems associated with the site? I'm interested in downloading a GL1800 ('08 model). Thanks for your help. I wish Angel were here to help me. She sounds like she knows a hell of a lot more than I do.

Chief, I do not believe you will find the 2006 to 2010 manual online. You can get a 2001 to 2005 in PDF format here:

http://www.goldwingworld.com/pages/Downloads.htm

Angel, sorry I did not get back to you on your back lights, but I don't own your model, and so, do not really know anything about them. Hal has one, so he is a better source than I.

Viking, you are correct. I tried to download the manual twice, but to no avail. I'm not sure what has happened. The site did try very hard to sell me some computer repair. I declined. Still looking for a downloadable GL1800 for my '08. I love these forums.

hi hal, chief and wingers!

many thanks for your document links.

i can't find a 1984 interstate deluxe
schematic anywhere. the standard has
different wiring to my deluxe?
how strange is this?

the po's have butchered the rear wiring.
splicing, twisting wires incorrectly,
not soldered, open to the rain? :-(

i've now got the rear turns to work.
also the title light.
the stop lights are the ones i'm
trying to connect up.
on all my other bikes, there are usually
a small harness that plugs in midway.
nothing on this gl1200?

my dilema is no wiring schematic.
the po's have changed wiring colors
to household wire, chicken coop wires.
any wires, except the correct ones?

i might have to pay for a man a van
to sort out the wings electricary!
$.... ouch!

let me see what i can sort out myself.
i dont give up easily. it's like trying
to find a needle in a haystack!

thank you very much one
and all fellow wingers for your
help and advice!

regards

angel
