Newday777 had an accident

Postby RoadRogue » Thu Feb 28, 2013 11:41 pm

I was reading the for sale ads over at the SS site when I saw a reference that Stu was in a bike accident the other day(Feb 23). I sent him a PM asking if he was OK and did he need anything. He is banged up a little and has a few stitches (23), two sprained wrists and a sprained ankle but for the most part is OK and will heal up in time. You can read his posting for all the gorey details if you want to here
http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/4-m ... ening.html

Heal quickly Stu, drop us a line when you can 8-)

Ride safe, Todd

I'm bored of being confined to the bed, completely! For now. But am being entertained by my roommate, the nurses and acute care techs, from them forgetting to get things asked for and the stories resulting from it they've kept us in stitches.

Then today I had a visit from a stranger, a lady who went to Jr high with a good friend from NH and lives in Chico and is Santa(some have seen his mugshot in the F/S section and littlebeavers secret Santa gift) , anyhow they met when he lived in northern Maine. She has been in Facebook contact in the past few years, she saw his post requesting prayer for his friend that was in a m/c crash in Oceanside, she requested to visit as she was here nearby. She eventually asked when and where the accident was at and as I told her, her hand went to her mouth and tears were flowing as she manages an apt complex and her apt is across from the accident and heard it happen and called 911. She filled me in that I did lay there for @10 minutes (bike on my left foot and that's why it's all black and blue. So another piece is filled in. Hoping she'll meet someone that actually saw the accident. Or God will send someone else I never met.

Now that you are lying back listening to all of the gossip, you need to pass on what it is. With nothing to do, and all day to do it in, you must be getting bored out of your head. Get well soon, boredom will go soon, and as summer approaches, life will look better.

Hey Newday    Guess What..... I'm wearing you're friends buckle... :D and it's a dandy buckle indeed... It's the little things in life that make me happy...I watch, look and listen alot...I have seen how really rich people treat others because they have so much money..I've seen really bad dudes beat up on one man...I've seen complete strangers help each other like it was nothing..I 've seen people just walk away from helping someone in need too... I T-boned a lady way back in 1981 or 82, I was on my way home from work and going around 30 mph and the street kinda makes a Y shape except the right side of the Y goes straight and a lady was sitting at a stop sign to the right of that Y and she thought I was going left in the Y as most folks do but I also have a clear path straight with no stop,,,SooooooWhat does she do,, jumps right out in front of me and I plowed her but good. San Antonio drivers are freakin terrible and it's my home town.. .... My new little 80 model Toyota Corrolla was smacked pretty good and I hit the windshield [no seatbelt   ] and it knocked the crap out of me...I remember a lady passing me going the other way and I said wait please wait, I was confused ..She just looked at me like I was garbage or something man and went on, WTF  The Beave was in pain and Confused ..I sat there a few minutes and I tried clearing the cobwebs but I took a good wack to my head.. The Lady gave me her Insurance which was bogus, anyway we settled out of court.. She paid for everything including my beer for the next year or two.... I still think that's what's wrong with me today as I walk around crosseyed still... Don't laugh...oh oh it hurts to laugh...Don't do it..

I have to confess I did embellished the bored factor, I had just gone through having to use a bed pan and wasn't wanting that as I am restricted to the bed. Guess they want me to want out of this place.

ARRRG, the bedpan routine. You know that is why the food is so bad in the hospital. It is to discourage patients from eating..therefore less need for the old bedpan. Hope you are feeling better. There is a inverse reaction concerning hospitals. The more you hate being there, the better you are getting. So when you really really hate it, must be time to go home.
Didn't see if it was hit and run (you hitting, cager running) or not, but hopefully insurance companies will sort it out and you can either get your wheels fixed or replace the machine with another nice one. I know my last accident where I was rearended, I was able to settle the totalled trike immediately. That was 21 months ago. Still have not settled the medical and anything for me. Atty said it may take 3 years. Insurance companies should have to pay tripple when they refuse to settle, keep stretching things out hoping you will give in and take pennies on the dollar.
Hope you don't have to go through the same thing. Take care and get well soon.

I hate to see any bikers involved in an accident. Usually it's not the bikers fault but they take the beating for someone else making a mistake. I know how you feel, was involved in a head on accident 11 years ago and still suffering for it. Totaled out my bike, his car, and I spent 2 years being sliced and diced trying to put me back together, didn't work. I have seen the same situations like the one you werein and so mmany people do not wait until they can see what is behind that vehicle that is turning and that is were the accident comes from. Actually, if people weren't in such a a hurry and not take chance then more bikers would stay out of hospitals.

Sorry Martin I thought most would read it on the link posted above at SS GW facts. Didn't loose anything though came real close. I have an 8" x 2" deep gash in my inner upper thigh where my hand grip meat hooked me to keep me from being launched into her car, things could have been worse, I could have had much worse injuries. As it is, the gash had to be reopened as it got infection. I have a wick in it to drain the fluids and it will take a month or two to heal slowly from the inside out. I spent 8 days on the return trip to the ER as they put me in IV antibiotics. I'm out in a motel room still dealing with her insurance company but may have to sign on a lawyer today if they don't change their ways.

Yeah , that don't sound so good man....I bet you are kinda stiff from the impact...You know man, you are still alive, but you are now extremely bumbed out, because of a mistake that never should have happened in the first place.. Insurance companies just love that back burner...They will Dance as long as they can get away with it...It may take a while but you will get yourself well and back on the road...Take care and know that we are thinking about you.. I agree with lil beav, we are happy to still have you around. Just from personal experience, you may want to get a lawyer involved anyway. The right one will work FOR you and be well worth any money you have to give up later in an agreement.

I'm another that says "get a lawyer asap" They will get you more extra than what their fee is...They will make sure you get compensated for your pain and suffereing, your motel stay as I assume you are out of town and everything else. Be aware that you can settle on the bike without dealing with the rest because that is pretty cut and dry if they offer you a reasonable settlement. I did a lot of research on my bike before taking a total...Don't know if yous is totaled or not, but make sure there is no frame damage that tweeks the bike so it isn't straight. If it is to be repaired, demand it be done by a dealier with OEM parts and nuffin from Tiawan. And remember all that infection, sure caused you a lot more PAIN and SUFFERING in addition to the original injuries. A good Atty will work it. It will take a couple years to settle because they will try to wait you out, thinking you must have the money now....That is always their game. Plus, it is actually a good idea for at least a year, because you don't now if any additional medical problems will pop up. Back injuries don't always show immediately. I would complain enough to get an MRI done anyway...just so you know what the situation is, even if you don't feel pain now. Before I had back surgery, my Doc showed me two MRI's of two different people. One shows a very small bulge, while the other showed a major bulge and full rupture. He said the guy with the small bulge could not walk because of nerve pain shooting down his leg. The other guy didn't even know he had the rupture. They were actually looking at another medical problem. They were both between the same discs. His point.....what you see doesn't always tell you what the damage and pain is, it just lets you know if there is damage. So even if you don't feel back pain now, you should complain enough to get an MRI, just show you know if there is anything bulging or ruptured or not.
My accident was Jun 2011....still no where near a settlement yet. But settled the bike in 10 days as they gave me a good price for it.
Nobody likes a battle, but that is what insurance is for....the insurance companies love to collect the premiums...but just hate to turn loose of any of that money. And adjusters get paid according to how much they save the company, not how much the represent the injured person. But,they will try to convience you that they are doing their best for you and getting you the maximum that can be had.
Hope you heal up real soon and don't have any residule damage.
Sorry for the long post, I just get carried away.
