Just bought my first goldwing...

Postby Nranders » Fri Mar 01, 2013 8:25 pm

I just bought my first goldwing and just joined this site. So far I like both. I just took my bike for its maiden ride and being from Minnesota and being only 28 out it was a cold ride. But quite fun. I have a 1977 gl1000 that I paid 1500 for. Thanks for reading. Ps the kids enjoy it so far also

Welcome in....and enjoy the ride. I would say 28 would be a little too cold for me, and I have a fairing, etc., etc. I bet you were grinning ear to ear though, and that is a good sign!

welcome,
Glad you like the site. I know you will love the wing....I still can remember my first ride on my first wing back in mid '75.. I must say though 28 degrees...My cutoff with full fairing is about 50 degrees. But being here in San Antonio, that still does not cut out very many days each year. When traveling, there have been times I was forced to ride in a little colder than 50 early in the mornings, but did so knowing in a couple hours it would warm up. Don't forget to look at all the initial maint. that needs to be done for your peace of mind. You know, timing belts, stator connectors, fresh fluids, (brake, oil, antifreeze,) and age of tires as well as condition. Keep it safe and maintained and she will run forever.

Welcome and congrats on the new to you bike. I'll bet the grin you had on the first ride stayed with you awhile, at least until your face thawed out!

I bet that if you are willing to ride in 28F, this will not be your last GW. As you learn to handle these wonderful machines, and work on them, the bug will get you, and in about 30 years time, you may look to upgrade to a later one. In the meantime, have a ball.

Welcome, another Minnesotan on the site. I live in the Twin Cities, but grew up in Caledonia (about 75 miles east of you). Enjoy the ride this season, it is getting closer!!

That's it, if you can ride in 28degrees, on a wing without heat, I can get out on mine. I'm gearing up and heading out. I've spent the past week or so getting her back in shape... I've sat on her and felt her idle, it's time to take her out for a run.

Thanks for your post, and the photos. I love the older wings, but I like my dressed wing as well.

Was that a case of peer pressure or what? ;)

Nice find. Seems like a good price too. I paid that much for a bike that needed a motor. Nothing looks better than a naked Goldwing with spoked wheels.
