Still winter here but bike is about ready

Postby tjdave » Sun Mar 17, 2013 8:22 pm

It was 26 deg and it snowed yeasterday, but I am close to being ready to ride. After stripping down my new to me 1983 and inspecting her I am satisfied she has years of riding left. I made a wish list but except for changing the timeing belt I am ready. This bike runs better than any I have had before so this should be a good summer, when it finally does arrive.

Same here except we're having a regular heat wave this morning as it is already a balmy 32 degrees. :D We have been getting in some late season skiing since there has been regular snowfall here. Only have to install the 6 disc CD changer and we are ready to go. Oh, and Bluetooth our helmets since I got Bluetooth for the Winger. Just over 6 weeks till we leave for the NC Smokey Mtns. Hope we don't have to wear the cold weather gear for the ride down. Warm weather hurry up! :!: :!:

Now you see my dilemma on leaving here in two weeks to come visit you... if the snow don't stop. Are you taking your bike to Tulsa and on to KC? Huh... I thought not.

Do you not have someone living in your KC house?

It's still the same here and they are calling for snow tonight into tomorrow. :x

My GL is still not ready yet. The carbs came back, but something was wrong when we tried to sync them, dumping fuel. The gasket in the center split chamber failed and I believe that was the main culprit. Now, I'm waiting again for them to come back, again. I still have painting to do on the Vetter stuff, but the rest of the resto is pretty much done.

I'm getting as impatient as pretty much everyone else is to get back into the wind, now more than ever as of the 8th I'll be surrounded by nothing but motorcycles and stuff 5 days a week.

Dave- I live not too far from you, near Ratalee Lk Rd and Dixie Hwy. My neighbor and I both recently bought old Goldwings (1975 & 1980) that we are getting ready for summer. Hope to run into you out riding sometime...

Nobody is in the house at this time, but my neighbors are all helping me us out checking on stuff and making sure all is well, my daughter goe's home often from Tulsa and her and her boyfriend stay the weekend often..I go home every month...This last trip we started out at 8:30 Sunday morning and got in Tulsa at 5:30 and I got a room, left there at 6:00 am for Kansas City, Kansas, the snow started showing up around Jopin Mo., it got thicker as I traveled north KC was a winter wonder land, there was a few accidents on the way,,One car was totally flipped upside down, didn't look real good..I got home and all the streets were fine, the street crews did well, except for our street, it was solid ice all the way across, wow,,, I made it up into my driveway, my neight was nice enough to shovel a pathway for me to park as he knew I was coming.....The mail truckdriver got stuck out front so I helped him get unstuck, I got my mail and checked on things and I unloaded a few boxes and I got on my way back here to SA, tx....I got back here at 4:00 am this morning..20hour driving day..15 from KC and 5 from Tulsa more less..  I'm ready for spring up that way too fella's I normally ride my bike up there to save on fuel, But Nooooo, this year is different..

Have any of your retired types ever considered being snowbirds and coming south for the winter????

I have gone about as far south as I want to, and we enjoy our weather, but the extremes are a bit tough. We could do with some rain, but that is supposed to be on its way - but I am not grizzling :D The weather here is Goldilocks - not too hot, not too cold, not too wet, and not too dry - just right.

Winter still hasn't lost it's icy grip here in the UK yet, in the north there is still a considerable amount of white stuff, not as bad as that in Plymouth but still bitterly cold for spring, about 30 degrees.
