Pretty basic question

Post by tom84std » Fri Mar 22, 2013 12:06 pm

Basic but still needs to be answered. Mine is an '84 1200. Has a dipstick mounted to a threaded plug. Do I read the oil level with the plug sitting in the hole UNTHREADED, or do I thread it IN to check the level?

Unthreaded, you unscrew the dipstick, wipe it clean with a rag, then with the bike vertical (On center stand, or someone holding it vertically) place the dip stick into the filler hole and then read the level.
