new set of tires

Postby HALBUDD » Tue Apr 23, 2013 7:31 pm

Im having a problem with my front tire on my 96 it keeps going low. So I have been looking at the Elite III tire combo from Motosports for $234.99 for the set any one have any thoughts about these tires? I have Elite II on there now but I am going to change out front and rear as I need to check the date code on them but would rather be safe then sorry.----------------------Hal

I had thought that the Elite III was a radial tire, and that the GL1500 was supposed to run bias plies, so correct me if I am wrong, please. Can a person run a radial on a bias ply application? Or am I totally out to lunch here and have no understanding whatever on these matters?

Thanks
Viking

Viking Im not sure about it ether but as long as your running the same kind and not mixing them I think its ok. I just typed the year and model of Wing and it brought up the Elite III as tires for a 1500,but I will go back and look at them again. thanks-------------------Hal

Dunlop makes the E3 in both Bias and radial.

I tried the Bias E3 front and rear. I didnt like the E3. Aside from the UFO sound from the rear after it wears a bit, rear cupping causes this tire to make a woooo wooooo wooooo sound when you lean them over even aired up properly. I found that the rear E3 tire slips easily in the wet even straight up under moderate acceleration. If you dont ride in the rain, and dont push it hard in the twisties, and dont mind a noisey tire the E3 may work well for you.
For my style of riding I would not put another set of E3's on my bike even if they were free. My choice is the Austone CT for the rear and an Avon Venom X up front. 8-)
Ride safe, Todd

The E-III comes in bias for the 1500. Make sure the one they have on sale has the B in the number. $234 is a large discount. I don't like the E-III but for that price I might reconsider. Yes it cups easily, sings and sounds like a mud tire in the corners. The IIIs get very good mileage but I am ready to pull them after 10k because of the cupping noise. Just put Avons on because of this. We'll see how they work out.
