Oil Mixture for a Weedeater Brand Name

Postby Dakotaman » Mon May 06, 2013 4:56 pm

I've been puttin 40:1 like it says, but it seems to be smoking some, and spewing a bit of oil down and around the gas tank. I think the above numbers is a bit much, but what have you guys used??

I don't know about Weedeater brand so much but my Homelite uses 32:1 and my Stihl 50:1. How's that for confusing the issue. Seems you should be just abut perfect at 40:1. What are you using to measure?? Maybe you just got a bit too much oil in last time. Better too much than not enough.

40:1 or 50:1 sounds right, I have som every expensive synthetic oil that I use in my RG500 that runs at 100:1, but it's serious overkill for a weed wacker!! I would stick to what you have, it might get a bit oily and smoke a bit, but at least it's not going to seize on you, those little engines don't get much air flow to keep them cool, so its always a good idea to run on the low side (ie 40:1 or 32:1).

I would stick to what the manufacture suggests, but you may try a synthetic oil. This does burn cleaner, and will give you less smoking. As for the gas mixture leaking, this could be your fuel line has very small cracks and just leaking out the sides of the fuel line. Blame this on the 10 % fuel blend junk they are selling us. I see this more and more all the time. One other thing to have that engine run better, is have the carb set properly to the fuel used. If your cutting line is too long, it will not let the engine run fast enough and load up with gas, thus you get smoking .The life expectancy of a weed eater is I think about 70 hours....Make sure your air filter is clean Too.
Remove your plug, take a look at it. That will tell you how that engine is running.
