I remember...

Postby littlebeaver » Wed Jun 05, 2013 9:47 am

I can remember everything just like it was yesterday, when I got the 81 and trailered it home and how bad the bike was running, it was aweful..I remember trying to figure out what was what on it,,having a manual hand book helped, but reading actual folks writing about stuff and making mistakes is what really helped me.. You learn from others mistakes and try not to make the same one's .. this bike ran so bad it hardly would idle..the PG was rusted in position, meaning the plate was stuck..the diaphragm in the vacuum advance was blown out..the slow jets were all clogged up, the float height was set by a dumbass.. they were way off, it was missing a small oring in the cutoff valve area..The wiring was done so poorly it looked like it could catch fire at any moment,,the yellow wire plug was welded shut and melted up pretty well... the pg plug near the battery area was aweful and the main fuse and all the wires to it needed some attention..The starter and wires had trouble..And the fan switch didn't work proper and the brakes stuck shut on the rear..So I remember what I did to this machine and now..Well, all I do is go ride it and wash it from time to time..nothing has gone wrong for well over a year now..I love it.. :D

Well done there Beave, there's nothing like rolling up your sleeves and getting dirty while you fix the PO mistakes and neglect to get to know your machine inside and out. It is a very good looking bike and you have it purring like a kitten. You have every right to be proud of your work. Just think how much fun you are going to have when you start that process all over again with a 1500............... 8-)
Ride safe, Todd

ha ha a 1500..That's gotta wait for now....Amanda has idea's of her own I think.. I do want a 1500, you guys keep telling me how smooth they are, I rode one home once and it really was nice...But for now I am still enjoying my 1100... so what do you guys Remember? I painted the silly thing three times or was it four times...Black, the winebury, White..three times...that's enough..geeez..Pain in buttucks..I made some mistakes learning too..like the uncoat was too light a color when I painted it the wineberry color..I didn't have a water trap on my spray gun so guess what..? oh man....Nightmares...touched it thinking it was dry,,nasty finger marks, oh man, peeled some of the masking tape i was using and the paint came with it..Oh man..terrible stuff happen, always make ssure after you sand that undercoat to wipe it clean really well before appyling paint and use good quality auto painters tape..that won't happen.. ... I remember the float got stuck and gas was leaking onto the floor in my garage because I had the valve on still and it was justa leaking..Unreal.. Many mistakes were made,,,I learned a boatload about this silly bike..And it ain't going nowhere for a long time..

I have an 83 wing. It only has 35,000 on it and not much has gone wrong. I did have a lot of fun putting in a starter. I'm also thinking of repainting mine.
I just moved to Texas from Minn. I was excited that I could ride a lot more often, but I think the heat in West Texas is worse than the cold in Minnesota!

can't say that i've had any of the excitement you've had with either wing beav.all the 1200 wing needed was tires and all the 1500 wing needed was a seat and some air in the tires
