Sigh. More plagiarism.

Postby WingAdmin » Fri Jun 21, 2013 10:14 pm

I just sent this email to the editor of GWRRA's Wing World magazine.

Hi there.

I'm a GWRRA member, and I also happen to own and run the goldwingdocs.com website - the second largest Gold Wing web site on the Internet. As such, I write quite a bit about Gold Wings and motorcycles in general, both for my site, and for a few bike magazines.

Imagine my surprise when I read the Riding Tips on page 68 of the July Wing World, by Tony and Michelle Van Schaick. Why was I surprised? Because it's actually something that *I* wrote. A few words have been changed (I was actually driving my truck, not my car, and I slammed down on the gas, not the "anti-locks" to get clear - how would slamming on your brakes get you clear of a situation?). It's also a T-intersection with one stop sign, not a four-way stop - obviously, or else I wouldn't have been in trouble pulling out into the path of a motorcycle, because he would have been coming to a stop. There was more written about the modulator as well, which was deleted and replaced with an ellipsis in the third-from-last sentence.

Other than that, it's an almost verbatim of a posting I wrote about two years ago.

I'm not going to claim copyright, foul, or anything else, which I have done in the past when people have outright stolen my writing and images. I'm just thinking that perhaps in future you should verify the source of your material and make sure that the "author" did in fact write it, before you publish it.

Don't be shocked when they say and do NOTHING..
There is a a serious lack of integrity and chacracter at the leadership level of GWRRA
(My opinion - does not reflect any one elses viewpoints)
I would doubt they even care that your work has been blatantly stolen and reprinted without permission.

To some R & D means to RIP OFF & DUPLICATE.... :x
Postings are my opinions based on experience and acquired knowledge.

Here's the original one. You can see the similarities:

Here's the reply I got in my email today:

Hi Scott,

My apologies for any error that was made. But before any conclusions are jumped to, please let me find out how this mistake was made. If a retraction is indeed needed, of course I'll put on in the magazine asap.

Back with you soon.

Best,
