OnlineLawnSales.com . Real or scam?

Postby godsen » Mon Aug 12, 2013 8:18 pm

Found something on Kijiji that I'd like to purchase. The seller is using Online Lawn Sales (OLS) to manage the transaction.

I trust the folks on this site so...
Is this outfit on the up-and-up? Anyone out there know of them or used them? The whole thing seems a little hinkey to me, but I've read a few posts that rave about them.

Any and all comments gratefully received...

Thanks all.

Well, how much research have you done?.....the head office is located in an residential apartment building. All locations are in shopping malls. but I haven't seen any listed in the mall directory.

Cash rules. Kijiji has many warning about distance transactions, it really is designed to be a local marketplace.

I would think, at least for me, that it would be safer to find a forum member within shopping distance of the item you wished to purchase, and get them to complete the transaction.

I just thought of a second solution. Paypal. If both buyer and seller have paypal accounts, you can pay with paypal, and you have 45 days to put in a dispute and claim, if you do not get your item. I am sure Onlinelawnsales.com are well intentioned. They are just unknown.

Steve B,
This is one of the things that is making me nervous. They claim to have a warehouse in Edmonton... 137 Ave. N.W. (no lot number) and a postal code.
I punched the postal code into google maps and the street view is just showing alot of regular residential housing on 137 Ave.... very odd for a warehouse that is supposedly housing a boat and whatever else they're supposed to have.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh, that would a store, because according to their website, the warehouse locations are "classified".
Pul-ease.

Well, the deal is almost too good to be true so it probably is .... If we were only talking about $50 or $100 I'd risk it, but we're talking about $5k. Just can't take a chance on that much scratch.

Please post the add, if you would. I've "local" killer deal bikes for sale with pics...with palm trees in the background.
We don't have palm trees.

Would, but can't. It was only listed on Kijiji for a couple days and then gone. I think it's kinda weird but according to OLS the seller can only post their ad for a limited time.
Having said that, there are those that would say if it was a scam they would leave it up to hook as many suckers as possible.

I do know that one of the pictures in the ad was a stock picture I saw in "Images of..." When I googled the make and model, but then he had a whole bunch of other pics from different angles, manuals, accessories, etc.

Some of this seems to be real solid, some of it not. As a result I just can't go for it, but I also can't get over the feeling I'm missing out on a great deal - which is what the scam artists count on, of course.

If this OLS outfit were solid I wouldn't be worried about the seller because their business model protects the buyer. Problem is I can't confirm that OLS is solid.

Theres the rub, now, ain't it. One would think that nobody would go through all they have gone through setting OLS up if it was a scam, but then, when one understands the internet, then the realization is there that it really ain't that much work. I did not trust EBay and Paypal (mostly Paypal) for the longest time, but have since had a very satisfactory financial relationship with them and now everyone who sells online, almost, has Paypal available. Everybody gotta start somewhere, and OLS may be on the level. Can you afford to test the waters for yourself is the Q. I know I can't.

The mention that the seller (ie, the owner!) "isn't allowed" to post his mechandise up for as long as he wants waves a red flag for me.
A legitmate payment company would only get paid if a payment is made, so you'd think they'd want transactions to finalize.

Well there is an absolutely huge red flag. And it is confirmed by Frannies investigation. She says it is fraudulent, I don't care who she is, I will take her word. I do not need anything bad enough to take the chance that she is wrong. A lesson learned.

Do you have the exact address. There is some warehousing on 137 ave but not much. There also isn't much residential directly on 137 ave. It's a busy road with mostly commercial development on it.

Whole thing sounds like a scam to me.

They do not provide an address, but the Postal Code is for Londonderry Mall.

Yeah, saw that too, which raised a red flag.... And called the 800-number several times at different times of the day and never did get a live body. And sent them an e-mail a few days ago and have yet to get a reply.
Yup, it's all adding up to "Danger, Will Robinson, danger!"
