Hello Everyone

Postby kgdb » Mon Oct 28, 2013 10:38 pm

What a great site! I have been riding, fixing and fabricating for well over 35 yrs and always had a soft spot for old wings. In need of a winter project (it gets cold here in Canada) i stumbled upon a 80 Interstate in need of much tlc. It sat for many years and it needs to be resurrected!

I have the carbs off now and will go through them but I really need a starter for it, not a easy find here but will keep on looking. My plans are to get it running nice and clean it up a little and it will be one of my rides for next summer. Look forward to hanging here a little.

That is in really nice condition, congratulations. Welcome to the site. Maybe someone here will chime in with news of where a starter can be had.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Nice looking Wing, must have been carefully garaged to be in that shape.

Very nice looking bike! Lots of winter time up in Winterpeg to get it running perfectly. :)

Thanks for the welcome. Yes our winters are loooooong and very cold so I spend my spare time in the shop tinkering.
The bike is in good shape overall but it needs paint, dont be fooled by the pictures. I spent a few hours and ran the polisher over it to bring some life back to the paint. Its a 10 footer for sure.

Welcome.

Looking at the GW as it is, it looks good. I am wondering, though, is it a good idea to paint it when it is so cold? Dont you get a better finish if the temperature is more around 20C (about 69F) so that it brings the shine out better?

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

Yes, one has to make sure the temperature is right for painting. My shop is toasty warm so that is not a problem but I don't think I am going to go to the work to paint this one.

Hello Kdgb and welcome to the website from the U.P of Michigan. That is a nice looking bike even for its age so if it's a decent ten footer then with a little tlc it will be a bike anybody would be proud to ride.
