Which Wing to get

Post by biggsxr » Thu Jul 16, 2009 11:54 am

I'm taking a 3rd week+ trip on a borrowed GL1800, and I have decided I MUST get my own wing.
Trying to spend less than 2K on a mechanically distressed, yet cosmetically good example.
My daily ride is a GSF1200S "Bandit", SV650 for fun, etc. - But I have become accustom to the convenience of hard bags & big wind protection!!

The decision becomes which one to get if I had some choice other than coming across a good deal on CL.

--->What do you guys think of the GL1100 with Vetter fairing Vs. Honda's Interstate fairing?
(CB's and Intercoms don't matter much to me)

--->GL1100 Vs GL1200?

--->The GL1500 is a Maybe for the cash I have on hand

This site is proving to be a great help in making a decision based on model!!

1200 wings have larger bags and trunk and more power than the 1100. the road sofa ( 1500 wing ) makes the 1100 or 1200 feel like light weights but i prefer my 1500 over my 1200 for long hauls

Thanks for the opinions!

I just got back from 9 days and 2500 miles on the gl1800.
Fully loaded with flattened off tires, some of the low speed handling was pretty difficult. - I'm Tired.

Having ridden 1000,1100,1200,1500, and 1800 and currently owning an 2001 1800 im kinda partial to the 1800. That said the 1500 is definitely worth it if you can swing the cash. If you plan on using it for long trips the options and comfort of the 1500 makes a big difference especially if you are near the 6' tall range. After seeing some of the Top Gun events this summer I was very impressed with the 1500's low speed handling. WOW!!
The Gold Wing line has been a progression of what is right with one model and tweeking it into thte next. After you have sat in the saddle a few miles you will easily know which fits you best
