summer time head wear

Postby Chickenlegs » Sat Mar 01, 2014 9:38 pm

I know its here some where but i can't find it. What are some good summer time head gear that you would put on your head before you put your helmet on ? Somthing that would help keep you a little cooler and to keep your helmet from getting gross with sweat.

That's a hard question to answer! If there was enough room for something besides your head then you probably have the wrong size helmit. Having a good helmit will allow you to remove and clean the liner. Mine is an HJC and has vents built in.

Silks is a nice headliner which is what I wear. Thin and keeps the itch away.

+1 on the silks. You look a little Amish until you get your helmet on over the top of it but once you use it you'll never put on a helmet without it. Your helmet liner will eventually get all gunked up though as the silk doesn't provide a barrier to sweat. My helmets all have removable liners now and I wash them a couple times a year.

Silky Comfort Liner is the correct name. Whitehorsepress.com has them.

LD Comfort has a helmet liner that stays dry on the inside and you can wet the outside and then put your helmet on it. The evaporation of the water creates a cooling effect. It has a long tail so it will keep the sun off your neck too. Highly recommend it.

I also use their brand of under garments too. Easy to take care of and prevents monkey but on this e long rides.

I wear a cool max cap now, but before I found those I wore a welders cap. You wear it backwards with the little bill down the back of your neck. They are two layers of cotton quilted and soak up a lot of sweat. Then, the air flow from your vents help cool your head.
In real hot weather I would rinse it in water and put it on wet. Machine washable. Can be purchased at any hardware, tool, tractor supply store and come in a variety of colors.

A vented helmet of a light colour, preferably white, will cool and reflect more than some of the other colours.
