Probably dumb question

Postby seelyark1 » Sun Mar 30, 2014 10:59 am

I notice at the end of eack topic there is a list of members on line. Some have a (BOT) after them. And that is my question, what is BOT, or what does it mean?

I would think it meant that it was user agent software, cataloging the site, commonly known as a bot, such as a google bot or others. Or, I should say, trying to catalog the site. WingAdmin probably has them blocked, which means they would show, but would not be gathering any info.

It is a Bot as in "web robot". They aren't blocked, but they are identified as such. They are primarily "crawlers" that crawl through the messages and index the contents for search engines, like Yahoo, Google, etc. That way when you type "how do I replace the front wheel bearings on my GL1100" into Google, it directs you here to the article here that tells you just how to do that.
