2CV Motorcycle creation

Post by WingAdmin » Wed Apr 30, 2014 10:02 pm

In 1993, while attempting to traverse the Morrocan desert in his Citroen 2CV, 43-year-old French electrician Emile Leray had the poor misfortune to hit a large rock, damaging his car and leaving him stranded far from civilization.

Rationing his limited food and water, and with only a modicum of tools, he cut apart his 2CV. He used the body as a shelter, and with a hacksaw cut the mechanicals apart. In twelve days, he converted his 2CV into a makeshift motorcycle, and rode it out of the desert. The rear bumper became the seat, he shortened the chassis, and placed the engine and gearbox in the middle of the vehicle.

After a day of riding, he was picked up by the Moroccan police, who drove him to the nearest village. They also gave him a hefty fine as the registration documents for his car no longer matched the vehicle he was driving!

Quiet ingenious to say the least. Are we to carry a hack-saw too.

Love to see the unicycle he'd make if he wrecked the "motorcycle".

My friend's wife had a 2cv in the 80's. After a couple of wet and salty British winters it didn't look unlike the improvised "motorcycle" shown above. Having said that, it was perhaps the most enjoyable car I have ever driven.

Quite the feat, I agree. On the other hand... if he would've been wearing proper underpants instead of his wife's/girlfriend's thong, maybe he wouldn't have hit that rock in the first place!
