Back in the Saddle Again with a 1985 1200I ASPENCADE

Postby Wn31682 » Sun May 04, 2014 10:39 pm

Hi everyone, my name is Waldo from Memphis, TN. I am 61 years young and my wife and I are refurbishing our house. We both rode Harley dressers for 10 to 12 years and then just stopped riding. Well, I just purchased a new 1985 1200 Aspencade. She is in excellent condition with about 90,000 miles. She will need a loving touch to verify everything is working prior to our first road trip. I am so looking forward to that day.
If anyone can help advise me in what order should I approach this walk down memory lane. Where are some venues for purchasing standard parts and such? I have new manuals ordered and will soon be getting my hands dirty.
Thanks for any help or advise in advance. By the way are their any clubs in the Memphis area for the older GoldWings?
Waldo :D

As always....Any new to me bike gets new tires, timing belts and a complete fluid replacement.
Yes this even includes clutch, brakes, forks and new moly grease on the drive coupler.
Take pictures....
Tend to the electrical issues and add a volt meter.

Check out the How-To articles on the site. You'll love the way WingAdmin and others put step-by-step directions, with pics, on most maintenance and repair issues.

If you need a front tire, I have a brand new Dunlop E3 I have no use for. It's in the for sale section. Still has sticker, asking 90$ shipped. If you find cheaper, I'll lower it. By the way, welcome to the forum and to Wings.
