Pledge to clean windshield

Postby WingAdmin » Mon May 17, 2010 6:50 pm

For a long time I've used regular Pledge (furniture polish) to clean the windshield on my bike. It does a great job, keeps the rain beading, and doesn't streak. However, it's always left a slight oily coating on the windshield, which attracted dust over a day or two, which necessitated cleaning it all the time. However...I've found a new Pledge "multi surface" cleaning product that cleans even better, and leaves no oily coating at all. If you see this in the store, give it a try - it does an amazing job cleaning! I just spray it on, wipe it with a clean towel (vertically only), then use a second clean towel to polish it clear. Works great!

:) Looks good but what is the cost ? Pledge the tradishional lemon stuff is cheeper than most automotive spray mist and wipes. I actully like the thin film left by lemon pledge for two reasons #1 it makes road debris ( tar & bugs) easier to wipe off, #2 I just like to wipe  See Pledge as we all know was made for wood, the thin film left behind was supposed to be absorbed by the wood. Well on anything else it just lays there as protection. I like that. Because when it attracts dust that gives me an excuse to wipe  You see it all works out for me

It costs about the same - and I've been using it for a week or so now, and it seems to work just as well as the original Pledge.

I'm sold on it - I put it on a few days ago, and when I rode into work this morning, it was still clean and dust-free. I hit a bit of rain just after I had applied it, and it beaded up and ran off just like the old Pledge.

What is the problem with the dust. You are supposed to wipe it down every day aren't you ?
If you are doing the required mainainence then you never have to worry about dust accumulating.

I used to use the Honda plactic cleaner but there's no going back since I tried this new pledge. It bug guts and whatnot off much better and is all round easier to use. Another great tip for this site.

After all isn't wiping down the bike the only truely required maintainance ? The bike tends to go on forever without any problems other than a little dust.

I do clean my windshield every morning before I set out. However, with the old Pledge, after sitting in the parking lot at work for 8 hours, the windshield was absolutely covered in dust, and if it got dark, was bad for seeing through with oncoming headlights. The new stuff I use does not do this - the dust doesn't stick to it like it does the old stuff. Much better!

I tried this "new" pledge and I found although the cost is the same per can, the quantity is less. It comes out a lot faster than the old pledge.

I think I'll keep using the lemon after the blue can is empty.

I don't mind the dust as I garage mine at home and work so its not a problem.

Thanks for sharing, I don't mean to be a nay-sayer...just my thoughts.

I use regular car wax on my shield and it works fine. Ez to wipe clean, leave no oily film, wipes dust and bugs off with easy. Great in the rain and at night the wax leave the shield clear without having light reflection problems.
Just for info.

To avoid the sticky, oily residue that attracts road grime, I have always cleaned my windshields with rubbing alcohol diluted with water. When I find there are too many bugs dried on the windshield, I first clean with Spic-n-span and then wipe with the alcohol solution.

Hello all

Sounds like a great idea I live in Florida and when I am caught in a rainstorm, my windshield always starts to fog up and I cant see through it. Will the pledge help to stop it from fogging?

Also wanted to ask about automotive products such as Rain X will that damage the windshield, I think it says not to be used on plastics.

Thank you, Fred

Any of you guys ever tried Plexus? Best product ever made to clean windscreens and yes, it is more expensive than Pledge. By the way, this is my first post. Just bought my first Goldwing. Going to go get it tomorrow. 2003 ABS with the fastest color. :D

I've got to say - Plexus is the best. Pledge is OK, but it seems to leave a residue that fogs...
