Goldwing anniversary

Postby anwarg » Thu May 22, 2014 4:26 am

Does anyone know when the 1500SE had its 20th anniversary? Maybe someone knows which year the first bike was made and then I can get the local maths prof to work the answer out for me! I have a 1500SE with a badge on the front just under the windshield which says 20th anniversary. The stamp on the frame says Ohio 2003. The dealer says that Honda made 20 000 bikes like the one I have to commemorate the 20th anniversary. This would then mean that the first bike was made in 1983. Which bike was that? Couldn't have been the 1500, could it?

My dealer isn't a Honda guy. He sells all kinds of bikes. Worse is that we only have a Honda car dealership here. No Honda Bike shop! Man, Africa is waaay behind. You guys in the States are so lucky. You ride down the street to buy parts! I fear the day something breaks and I can't fix it myself.

The first 1500 was for production year 1988 and they ran until 2000. The first 1800 was the 2001 model. Check the vin # on the plate on the horizontal frame up in the area just behind the steering stem shaft while sitting on the machine. Its visible to the right of the shaft in the open well area.

Can you post a pic of your bike. Something ain't right with this. The 20th anniversary 1500 was the 1995 model. 1975 first GW / 1995 = 20 years

The 20th aniversary was in 1995. The Wings 1st year of production was 1975, making the 1995 model year the 20th aniversary edition.
The 1500 was started in 1988. The 20th markings have nothing to do w/the 1500 being 20 years in production. It means the Wing, which started as a 1000cc, began in 1975!
My 2000 Wing was a 50th anniversary bike, meaning Honda of America was 50 years old!

The emblem on the front of my 2000, GL1500 shows 25th Anniversary - 25 years of Goldwing.

The 1999 model had a 50th anniversary emblem - 50 years of Honda Motorcycle as a company - started in 1949.

According to Wikipedia Honda didn't come to the USA until 1959.

Soory man. Dunno what's happening to the brain cells. The stamp says 1993, not 2003!

I have a 20th Anniversary Aspencade, officially a '95 model however I ordered mine new in about May 1994 and took delivery in October of the same year. I still have the old girl too.

Still not right. Perhaps someone replaced the trim on the front with one from a 95.

Absolutely correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My bad. Looked at a pic of my 2000 and sure enough, emblem showed 25 not 50!
Don't know where I "pulled" that 50th anniversary from.

OK cool. I feel a lot better now. 1993/1995 - only two years' difference. It's possible that the 1500SE was made two years before the Aspencade. What's for sure is that my baby is 21 this year and still going strong. Not a single problem except for the speed control that's dead. Tried moving the clutch lever which switching it on but that didn't work. Next is to remove the speedo cable and clean it and the cover it runs in. With winter approaching fast down here it doesn't look like that's going to happen soon.

Hope you have a nice summer.
