Take care, my friends

Post by Mh434 » Wed Jul 09, 2014 1:00 am

This is just a reminder to all who ride - keep your "head on a swivel", stay alert, and stay safe.

I've just learned that the rider in a fatal motorcycle crash yesterday near me was my best friend Gerry. I knew him since I was a teenager, and we've been best friends for over 40 years.

A woman in a SUV pulled out across the highway from a stop sign and mowed him down. He lived for a few minutes, but died at the scene in the ambulance. He was an exceptionally careful, courteous and calm rider, wearing full top-quality safety gear & full-face helmet, but none of that could save him from a careless cager.

My heart & prayers go out to his wife and family. I miss him already, and still can't believe he's gone.

Take great care, my friends.

Inattentive drivers are a great danger to us all. I've read about far too many motorcycle / car crashes this summer. It is especially hard when the rider is a friend. My condolences to His family, to you and the many other friends I'm sure he made during his life.

You words of caution are heard and understood here.
I am wrong as often as I am right concerning what is wrong with someone else' motorcycle without having seen the machine in person. Guessing with limited information, as to the source of the trouble, is sketchy at best.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. Simple fact of the matter is that you need to ride with the idea embedded in your brain that EVERY CAGER IS OUT TO KILL YOU whether it is intentional or by their own careless stupidity. That's the way it is, sad as it is. Ride Safe.

Be alert; be careful; and keep smiling. Sorry about your loss, and remember the good times that you both enjoyed, and that will make the blow a bit softer.

Thoughts and prayers out to you and his family.....

all others: be safe.

It plain sucks to know someone lost in this way. I know, and it takes time to heal. I'm sorry for you loss and take a lot away with me when this happens, but always know in my mind that it may happen to me some day. A neighbor of mine put up his wing the day after loosing his friend in the same way, thankful for the run of luck he had through the years. Thanks for sharing and be safe out there.

I've just returned from Gerry's funeral. There were a lot of people there, and a great outpouring of emotion - he was loved by all who knew him. He was one of those people who was always giving to others, without a thought for himself.

One day soon I'm going to the spot where it happened, to say goodbye privately, and to leave some small tokens. No one else will see them, but I'll always know they're there.

Thank you all for your kind words, and your caring - your support helps, more than you know.

Rest in peace, Gerry, and know you were the best friend I ever had.

Sorry to hear about your friend. :( Rottiman has it right. They can look right at you and not see you, so you have to see them and hope that you can react for their mistake.

Every time I hear about another brother or sister dying this way it sends the chills down my back. The only saving grace is you can say he was doing something he loved to do. ALL of us know of the dangers, and most of us know someone who has been involved in a cagerat fault accident. I was one of the lucky ones to survive one and now permanently disabled, but I can still walk. My thoughts and prayers go out to Gerrys family and friends, nobody deserves to die like this. And it will continue until people wake up and actually watch out for the bike.

So sorry to hear this news. I know that we have all had close calls with cagers. But he is now in heaven riding with our Lord on highways we can only dream about!
