I guess I'm outta the Goldwing business

Postby tom84std » Sat Jul 12, 2014 7:05 am

Just finishing my Volkswagen Trike. Couple of weeks ago I bought a Honda VTX1800. Getting married and moving from DFW to N. Arkansas. After 15 years of owning and riding Goldwings I've decided that three bikes, one trike, two cars and a truck is just too many motor vehicles and too much stuff to haul around. I ride the VTX exclusively and only ride the wing to keep the battery charged and carbs clear.
I called my best friend who'se always loved my '84 and told him that it was my gift to him. Gonna miss that old faithful machine.

That's a bummer. But at least you had the opportunity to enjoy many miles on the wing (assumed of course). And what a GREAT gesture of friendship. You can be sure it will be well cared for. I can empathize with you on seeing a bike go. I just sold my first ever bike, a 2006 Shadow Aero 750 that I bought new.
The VTX1800 is a nice bike just the same and one that will faithfully get you around. Of course, it's a Honda so we would expect nothing less. And it's not like you have totally given up on riding.
Remember, just because you've moved on to a different ride doesn't mean that you have to go away. Stick around and help to answer crazy questions from us newbies.
Happy trails and safe travels to your new home. Hopefully Arkansas has some good riding.

I can understand your feelings, It is like loosing a friend, however in this case you have ensured your friend will be well looked after. I sold my boat a few weeks ago. Hated to part with it but hadn't used it since 2007. With two vintage cars, two bikes two pick ups an suv and camper the shed is getting crowed Good luck in your move to new surroundings and future trails

Well that friend of his is giddy as a school boy seeing his first set of breasts. Shocked that it came out of the blue like it did and yes it will be very well taken care of Ive been riding a 79 GL 1000 that I got from him a couple years ago and thinking of passing the gesture on to a young fella I know that has admired the the 1000. Tom got me into the Gold Wings and this 1000 has made me fall in love with them. So I may do it just to pass it on to another Generation. Tom may be out of the Goldwing business but he wont quit riding Ill make sure of that. Next Spring Yellow Stone for SURE we got to do that then on to the left coast.

Heck, I'm 54 and I still. Get giddy. LOL
Maybe one day I'll pass my GW down. What a great idea to keep the interest alive. Share the joy.

Pictures of the VW trike please.
