Did that just happen?

Postby waituntilthebeep » Thu Jul 31, 2014 10:57 pm

So I took my 89 in to Mother Honda to have the back tire changed to a CT (Austone Taxi Tire) and have the rear rotor and pads changed. I don't have a rack and I really didn't want to screw with it. They did the brakes and installed the Austone for me.That was yesterday. I went in this morning to get it and was running late for my appointment so instead of loading her into the back of the truck I rode off into the sunset to my appointment. The bike rode great and the appointment was pointless. I got back to the dealership to load the bike up and got that itch that happens when you see bright shiny bikes in large quantities. I saw a 2004 purple beauty and decided that I really wanted to know the sticker price. That snowballed into looking at a sparkly black and silver 2012 GL1800 and that turned into signing on the line for the 2012.
I can give a 10 mile review of the Austone Taxi Tire though:-) It rode smooth and I took it over cracks and tar snakes galore to see if it was grabby and it was great. The corners were... different. It was due to the deep tread lugs and the bike felt a tad bit slithery... but really easy to get used to. That whole adventure cost me $500 and after a 10 mile ride, I gave it all to the dealership in the trade:-) Oh well.

So now I own a brand spankin new Wing. Gotta start looking for accessories. Look out! Oh yeah, gotta change my avatar pic.

Ok, be honest....it did not cost $500, you have to take in to count the new ride, payments, etc., etc., I betcha it cost way more than the $500 you are quoting, probably the most expensive tire you ever purchased ;)

Congrats!

Those of us that are dedicated to the 1500 are sad. But we are also joyful that you have something nearly as good :D . As long as you have a smile, that is what counts the most.

And just think, someone is going to get a nice, new to them, 1500. All because he fell for the "bling". Next thing he will be looking for another 1500 :D . Enjoy your new ride.

Actually... It wasn't quite like that  The bike had 120k on it, which I know... it's still a baby in Wing years. However, I have been fighting the throttle curve issue with it since I bought it and that issue almost caused me to dump the bike a dozen times. That place in the throttle where you need it to be present, like rolling into a corner from a stop, just wasn't there. I spent alot of time rapping the throttle out and slipping the clutch to make sure that there was enough clean torque to keep the bike upright and even then it was dicey. I spent lots of hours tweeking and modding to try and solve it but to no avail. Was also starting to have issues with the trans and that was disturbing. I commute 2 hours each way to work every day and I was starting to doubt the trustworthiness of the old girl. New and under warranty had their place in my decision. I will miss her styling and charm as well as all the large amounts of upgrades and chrome she had from previous owners. I will doll this one up in time. I have zero problems with stability and she does slow speed cornering like a dream. My new relationship with the new gal has been nice. Many many more years to come with this one. Especially since I have this forum to help me keep her in tip top shape.

Sorry to hear you left the 1500, but I am sure you will LOVE the 1800 as much, maybe more!

And I thought I had a long commute, I do not feel so bad now (I go almost 70 miles one way). Definitely enjoy, both rides bring something to the table, and for me I am just happy rolling on 2 wheels.

I know where Silverlake is. I lived in Longview and Kelso for a few years. I commute from Bremerton to Everett. It is only 50 miles each way but I deal with the ferry in the middle of the trip. So it is a time suck as well as mileage. Like you, I am so happy to do it on a bike. My wife has tried numerous times to get me to buy a car but I hate being in a cage when I can be on a bike.

Yup yup....I ride when I can but when the rains hit, the bike goes to sleep, I am not that hard core. I go from here down to PDX Airport (office is near there).....the a.m. is a good commute, about an hour, the afternoon is a pain, the traffic from Airport Way up to freeway is a bear, sit there for 30 mins just to go a mile or so.

We have been in Silverlake for over 20 years, actually have a piece of property off of one of the north sloughs in near Streeters area. We were lucky to find this place and no way letting it go (unless we move out to the coast when I retired, which will be......never, ugh).

Any reason though to get on the bike, even a trip to the store is a round trip 20 mile short distance. If I take the long way (like many others here) I can be gone for 1/2 the day. Lots of nice roads at the mountain.

Yes, that area out there is beautiful. One could ride hours on end just checking out the awesome views. I LOVE the PNW for it's great ride potential. I am a year round rider. I only drop out of the bike for a cage when it hits 25 degrees or the roads are just unsafe. I think I lost 20 days this last winter to a cage. Not bad for our usual weather.
