A tick on the bucket list.

Postby Sidcar » Thu Oct 02, 2014 2:48 pm

For years I've wanted to do a lap of the Isle of Man TT course and, at last, this year I did it. In preparation for retirement some friends and I loaded 5 bikes into a minibus and cleared off the IoM for the Manx Grand Prix. As it was a minibus not a 40ton Artic I sadly couldn't take the Wing so I took my recently acquired Moto Guzzi Falcone. I did two laps. The first one took 1 hr 6 mins, a bit disappointing. The lap record for the 37 3/4 ml course is about 17 mins, not going to get anywhere near that but I though that under an hour would be reasonable so a couple of days later I did it again. There was nothing in front of me over the mountain (but the was a bit of a queue behind) and it was a clear road right down to Douglas but when I checked the time, 1hr 8 mins. Consistent if nothing else.
Hope to go to the TT proper in 2016 and this I'll be taking the Wing (and the wife so there'll still be no speeding).
The picture shows the Guzzi resting in the pits after labouring round the course for the second time.

Well you have beaten me to it!

I don't know whether it is also on your bucket list, but a trip to the Moto Guzzi museum located in their factory on Lake Como is worth doing too. Birmingham to Mandello del lario would be a wonderful trip on a Goldwing. Start planning now for next May.

That's terrific! Just the fact that you ran the course is awesome.
