Lighting question

Postby Uncle Fester » Sat Nov 01, 2014 10:50 pm

For those of us who have added extra LED or neon lights to our bikes, around the wheels, behind grills, lighting up the windshield, under the bike, where ever, I have some questions:

1) Do you have the ability to turn off the lights while riding or are they wired ON all the time ?
2) Do you run them most of the time, or shut them off while riding ?
3) Have you ever been pulled over by the cops (what state ?) for them and what was the out come ?
4) What lights do you have and what color ?

Hello Uncle Fester; I have a set of LED'S the PO had installed. It has a rocker switch to turn them on and off I only use them when sitting at bike nite there blue. Here in Alabama u can't not use them at nite when riding I have asked a couple of local police officers and a state trooper.

I have amber, red and blue lights on the "ring of fire" on the front wheel of my GL1500. They are switched, and I will normally switch them on only at night - but not when I'm travelling in Ontario, where I understand they take a dim view of such things.

Right now I just have 3 amber alight on each side of the forks, and a amber out/ blue in ring of fire, but I would LIKE to add some blue hidden inside the side vents,so you only see the glow, not the lights, and maybe some blue or red UNDER the saddle bags, again so you only see the glow, not the lights. . .

I would also like to add a single 12" strip of red LEDS under the trunk, wired to only come on with the brake lights, but again, only the glow showing, not the lights. . . .

I guess I will put them all on a switch, just to be covered....now the question is, one switch or a switch for each set ?

I run RGB lights on mine bike, yes, they are switched on and off, here it is illegal to run colored lights other than red or amber on the rear or amber on the front.

I run the Ring and blue accent under the bags and a blue edge light on my Memphis shades tall windshield everything is switched and only run at night with no problem from law, so far.
