Personalized (Vanity) license plate

Postby phenrichs » Tue Nov 04, 2014 1:42 pm

I have been a rider for 20+ years. When my kids were very small I sold my bike and bought a camper. Not enough time to ride that would justify the payment. Now I am getting back. I have waited a long time for this. I have loved the goldwing for years but wasn't in a position where I was ready for something that large and couldn't afford it.
Now I can. I have worked my A off to get myself to a position in life where I can afford my fun.

Long to short I am buying an 1800 in the spring. I am not sold on color yet. I love the Blues between 03 and 12. I like the bright silvers and the dark reds.
I plan to put a personal plate on the bike but I am not sure what to use. For those of you that have them can you shoot me some ideas examples. What is yours and what does it mean to you, say about you?

Thanks

The most infamous number plate in England belongs(ed) to a former motorcycle/truck racer called Steve Parrish. He obtained the number PEN 15 for his car.

Sounds like something Jeremy Clarkson would have. The concept of high-priced number plates in England being bought/sold on the open market is totally foreign in North America. Here, you go to the registrar, pay $100 (or whatever fee they charge), tell them what you want, and as long as it's not already taken and it's not patently obscene, they make it up for you. People commonly try to have plates made that are offensive or obscene in an obscure way, to try to make it past the "license plate censors." :)

I certainly don't want anything that would/could be construed as obscene. Something that speaks to either my pound and triumphant return to motorcycling or perhaps my being a professional computer geek. Or a combination thereof.
I am just not sure so i thought I would ask for some examples.

I have personalized plates for my truck (NRA) Blazer ( Animal friendly ) and I have patriot guard plate on my bike. The organizations get a percent of the price of the plate. That helps them out.___________________Hal

phenrichs,

You need to come up with several ideas or possible plates. I have personalized plates on my Wing and my wife's VTX.

IN VA, you can go to the DMV website and see what type plates are available and I have Shenandoah National Park Plates on both bikes as I like the bear that is on them but VA does have a lot of different plates you can choose.

The problem comes in deciding what verbiage you want on the plate. The VA website allows you to input different ideas and tells you if that is available or already used or just not acceptable. Hopefully your state has a similar website.

I do hope that you will enjoy your new purchase, as I have a GL1800 and have really enjoyed riding it. I have been able to do considerable travelling/touring on the bike and since my wife has her own bike she has made many trips with me. About the only time we are doubled on one bike is to go to a restaurant for dinner. I wish you the best of luck and if I can help in anyway please PM or email me.

On my last Goldwing I had "4COACHN" I bought it when I stopped coaching High School Softball. The bike was my reward. On a little Toyota 4X4 I had that looked like a minature monster truck, I had "PUDLJMPR". If that one hadn't been available I was gonna get "STMPJMPR"

People say I have a nice bike so I am getting a plate that says - 'SBUENO' Spanish is 'Es Bueno' or 'Is Good' but wont fit in the 7 character limit.

So "ESBUENO" was taken? I would think for the plates that the cages and bikes share the same "list" of what to reserve for personalization, yes?

By the way....Nice Bike, lol.

Oh sorry. HAHA Uh, no. I forgot to put a space in.... 'S BUENO' I didnt want it to be literal Spanish and wanted it to also take half a second to figure out.

We have a database search here too. We only get 6 spaces for MC plates. I will figure something out.

The only time I had personalised plates, I had three vehicles. A motorhome/rv/old bus, a trailer, and a car to put on the trailer. My brother had number plate 33, and he still has it. So I thought that I would fit into that theme. The motorhome was plated: "Tri Tri" (it is an old bus and some of the hills were a challenge until I upgraded the motor); the car was plated: "Lil Tri"; and the trailer was plated as "3Some". I got some looks, but once they put it all together, it worked.
