I have an 88 and a 99 1500. I have put about 14000 on the 88 without any problems and bought the 99 the end of July and have put about 5000 miles on it. No problems there either. So I can recommend either one. Try and find one with the mileage low. My 88 is for sale if you are interested.

The SE model came with the most factory options. The Aspencade(next in line)came with most everything you'll need and then there's the Interstate. The biggest thing with the Interstate is no reverse,so not so good for a trike or sidecar although I wouldn't want any 1500 or 1800 without it.The 88-89's came mostly all the same(loaded)and then they split into the 3 models in 1990.
If I'da known it would last this long,I'da taken better care of it.

I am not a side car fan, and I have never seen one on a GW, but I know it has been done. Perhaps someone will speak up that has one. Reverse would be a necessity on a bike this heavy, side car or not. IMHO...........

I have never owned a GW sidecar but have seen many that look great, there are some magnificent ones about if you google GoldWing sidecar images. Great for comfy cosy passenger or if you have kids. Some considerations are Width is between 7'6" and 8'0" however, so a wide garage is needed. I know some car ferry companies say you have to pay for a motorcycle with a sidecar as a car.

This isn't a GW, but it's a pretty nice Valkyrie with a sidecar. First one I'd ever seen. Took the pics at a used car lot in Winchester, Va. They wanted $12,000. Don't know the year or mileage. It has a removeable bubble-top. The front flips up for entry and the trunk is huge. Might be able to find out more if you're interested.

Yes, the 88-89's had reverse and most all the other goodies of the SE. The models were split in 1990.
